Is it necessary to rest in between reps? Why is this? How long should you rest for weightlifting?

Yes, your muscles can not continue to work strenuously like that and you should rest to stabilize your breathing and heart rate. Taking a 30- 60 sec break between reps of any exercise including lifting weights is highly recommended.

Hi Truman,

First of all it is very important to know how to exercise properly. As much as exercising is a great way to lead healthier life it can also be very unhealthy if you are doing it on the wrong way. Resting between repetitions is necessary because your muscles need to rest so you can continue with the same intensity as before the rest. Also this is a great way to stabilize your breathing, and you are aware that breathing is very important because of your heart so watch out for this.

Also if you overreact your heart rate will be significantly increased and this is a sign to slow down. 60 seconds is enough to get yourself to the previous condition so you can continue with weightlifting.
