My 83 old father is in a care home with dementia.....he has complained of back and leg pain (I'm sure he has lewy body dementia as he has quite a curved upper back and leans to one side) so his Dr. has prescribed hydromorphone is small doses. He has been getting this for about a month and barely gets out of bed now. He is sleepy all the time and does not eat. I don't know what's worse, seeing him in pain or seeing him slowly starve himself to death as he doesn't want to eat much at all. They are giving him a high calorie boost. He says his eyes feel like they are shaking and he is seeing things now. I know that when he's been on medication before he was seeing things on the walls. I'm wondering if there is anything else that can be prescribed.
Is there anything else that can be prescribed for dementia besides hydromorphone?
