I am so glad i am not alone. i was getting REALLY annoyed when the only thing popping up on google were "pregnancy" related topics. and theres no way and hell id be pregnant. considering, i am a lesbian. and it certainly isnt cancer. ive been to the docter plenty of time and my nipple look fine. but all around my breasts and my nipples them selves ITCH like a mofo. since forever. on and off sometimes though. i have like size C? breasts? idk. and after reading this. im going to sleep tonight with out a bra. i have been excersizing ALOT lately and i think increasing the friction of breasts against the material of my bras. and its not like i cant wear one whilst running etc. because that would hurt. (your girls know what i mean). but its becomeing really painful. this itching. and hearing your guyses input has been really helpful. ill actually post again and let you all know if the whole "wearing my bra less'" thing works. but itll be difficult seeing as i work as well. not leaving me much room not to wear one.
i wonder what kind of material is best for our breasts...

I'm 37 years of age with 38D and have had this problem since last Winter (seems to only happen in the cold weather- I live in NJ). It drives me MAD and I itch until I can't itch anymore and they turn bright red. It's only my areolas that itch, but I go crazy and itch the whole damn breast. I use hydrocortisone cream and it's temporary relief. They don't itch everyday, but when they do.....uuuuuugh! I try to use all natural organic lotion on them to try to soothe the dry skin, but again...it's only temporary. I've even used a little bit of olive oil...and that seems to help more than anything. But it's oily! :/ And unlike most here, I have other areas on my body that are really itchy, too, in the cold weather...especially my legs (probably because of shaving). I hate the Winter weather! :/

I use cheap bras that I buy at Kohl's, but considering I've been using them for quite a few years, I doubt that's the problem...but I am currently looking into an organic cotton bra ( ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***). I use all vegan/natural soaps and detergents and lotions. I stay away from antibacterial products because they also kill the GOOD germs that our bodies need (research it!). I stay away from all products that have sodium laurel/laureth sulfates, parabens, etc. and I do not use any synthetic perfumes (I try my best to stay away from carcinogens, they cause cancer).

I have never gotten a mammogram and I never will. Mammograms are radiation...and what does radiation do? Cause cancer. If I ever need to have my breasts checked out, I will get breast thermography, and may I suggest everyone look into that as well? They are completely safe and more effective. Do your body a favor and research it! :)

I have gained a little bit of weight over the past couple of years (I'm about 25lbs overweight), so I'm wondering if the weight gain has something to do with it. I started going back to the gym recently and I have already lost a little bit of weight and plan on losing the rest within a few months. I guess I will find out soon if the weight gain caused my itchy breasts. :)

There are so many ways to look at this...weight gain, synthetic materials in clothes/bras, perfume and dye allergies, dry skin, cold weather, change in diet, medication, lack of water (dehydration), I even saw some people on here saying yeast infections or "athlete's breast"...there are so many possibilities, ladies, as to why we are suffering from this condition. The only way to figure it out is to start changing things in your everyday life that you think may be the cause. You know your body better than anyone. Some of you may need to see a health care professional, so don't hesitate. I'm sending good wishes and thoughts to all of you out there and may we all have healthy breasts

Read about formaldehyde in bras ... or other chemicals used in making them!  I, too, had this happen to me!  Went to several different doctors only to find my own answers online.  Use aloe and over the counter anti-itch creams - even try lamasil or hydrocortisone creams.  If you read online, sometimes washing a few times washes out the chemicals.  But then, if you read about other chemicals, washing breaks down certain chemicals and actually changes the makeup of it and makes it worse ...  ?!  Chances are, one way or another, you are having reactions to these chemicals!  GOOD LUCK!

You might consider being checked for a thyroid problem, too. Unbalanced hormones can cause the symptoms you are experiencing. Increased prolactin levels could also be involved. ? Just some thoughts.

I bought a Victoria's Secret gel bra that, after wearing one time, caused me to itch for two weeks and that was while I was taking Benadryl and using cortisone cream! Since then I have purchased two other brands, non-gel, and am currently having the same problem but not as bad. After all the problems with making dog food, and finding melanine in infant formula, I think there might be cause to suspect that something else is an ingredient in the plastic or the latex or polyesters of bras. I have written to TV stations consumer advocates to check into this, but until more women complain nothing will be done. It is not the detergent. It is not the size of the breasts or the bra. This is something in the bras itself, and, in my case, is not brand specific. Keep asking your girlfriends and lets get some answers.

I googled "itchy breasts" just so that I could post a comment on every itchy breast forum/question i could find and help give hope to those suffering from the same problem I had. After several months of itchy breasts, and after many attempts to cure the problem by switching bras and changing detergents to no avail, I researched online and found that my itchy breast problem could possibly be Athletes Foot. I wasn't positive at first because I didn't show the normal signs of dry/flaky skin Athletes Foot typicaly leaves behind, but I thought I'd tried other methods to no avail so I'd give it a shot. I went to my loval CVS store and bought an over the counter Athletes Foot cream and applied it to my breasts twice a day for four weeks, religiously. To my amazement, that was the culprit and four weeks later I am completely healed. The only side affect I found was that about three weeks in and even about one week post application, it has made my breasts peel a little bit. Nothing bad at all, just almost like a very minor sun burn or something and the skin is shedding away. I just assume this is the athletes foot cream killing whatever bacteria was there and is peeling away the dead skin and am hopeful this will stop soon. All this to say, don't panic, and try Athletes Foot cream! I can't begin to describe the relieft it has brought me.
