So one morning, I noticed that my eyes were a bit itchy, so I began rubbing my eyelids. I did this throughout the day without thinking much of it. The next morning, my eyes were completely crusted over with white/yellowish colored goo and crust. The scelera (white part of eyes) were still white so I knew it wasn't pink eye, but I decided to go see a doctor in case it was contagious. I should have gone to see an opthamalogist. Instead, I went to a general physician.
So I don't have any known allergies to environmental factors (trees, pollen, and grass). I took a bloodtest several months ago for food and environmental allergies, and they all came up negative. I'm healthy. I try to exercise 4+ a week, and eat healthy food for the most part.
Other relevant information is:
1) I live in Alaska. It's pretty dry here, and I got back from a week long vacation in Hawaii. My skin has been flaking around the ears and scalp but no where else).
2) Volcano ash from a month ago is now exposed from snow melt, though the ash didn't bother me immediately after the eruption.
3) I have sensitive skin.
The doc prescribes me Zylet based on what I told him, which is an eyedrop medication with steroids and antibiotics. It's a lot thicker/gelled than a traditional eye drop. Anyway, I don't think it's working. The doc just said that it could be due to dust and volcanic ash floating in the air since the snow is all gone, but I don't believe that since it never bothered me before. I was more open to the possibilty of developing an allergy, but none of the trees have budded, and there's only dead grass on the ground.
The itchy eyes, itchy, pinkish, puffy upper eyelid symptoms are all completely new to me so I don't know what to do. I looked up some possible diagnosis and I ran into blepharitis. It could be that but it could be a lot of other things, too. Just in case, I gently cleaned my eyes with a warm wash cloth (different wash cloth per eye). Let's see how it is in the morning...
Any words of wisdom are appreciated.

hmmm that sounds like Pink Eye.
what i would suggest is to make sure your hands are always clean, do not touch the eye at all, when you get the crustie things dont scratch them off use the cloth to moisten them off and just keep your eyes clean as much as you cann
