I am over 1000 miles from home on extended vacation. Of course, that's when I get ill :-(
First off, I have a history of double collecting system (double ureters) that caused some problems for me when I was a child. I am now 53 yo and have fairly frequent UTI's.
I've also had a kidney stone in the past complete with lithotripsy almost 10 years ago.
Well about 2 weeks ago I passed a visible amount of blood in my urine. I wasn't in pain, and it cleared up in a few hours, so I'm thinking I may have passed a stone. It was also a weekend, and I didn't want to have to go to ER so I waited.
So Friday (yippee going into another weekend), I started having a lot of burning and mild back pain. So I did see an MD who did a urinalysis and did find blood but no infection. He sends me over to the hospital for an IVP. They stick me 7 times for a vein and got very little contrast in. But the radiologist said that I had some "blunting and maybe a small bit of necrosis" and he used some other terms I am not familiar with. He also mentioned kidney damage. He said I needed to see a urologist soon. So of course by then the first Doc I see has already closed the office. So here I am worried all weekend and I am thinking my back pain is getting a bit worse and the burning definitely is.
He did put me on Cipro and I'm to call the urologist Monday. It seems to me that if it were anything urgent, they would have sent me somewhere then. Does that sound right ? And can someone explain to me what the term blunting means ? Of course the radiologist seemed in a hurry to leave (Friday evening by this time), and I wish I'd asked more questions but felt rushed and didn't think of it at the time.
Thank you....
