For the past several months, every time I do any high-impact aerobic exercises for more than a couple hours, all of my toe nails save the largest on either foot, will crack laterally (that is, perpendicular to the length of the foot).
The cracking is fairly slight (not at all clean through the nail) and heals in a few days. My toes will hurt from this, and the nails will crack far sooner than I have any other major wear on my feet. (Normally I will at least make the skin on my feet sore after several hours of exercise, but my toes will crack by the end of the second hour.)
Is this some form of vitamin deficiency? Is it even something serious worth bothering over. I took a long break from heavy exercise for about a year and gained a bit of weight, so I think the added impact of my weight could be a contributing factor.
I'm a 23 year old male, and weigh approx. 230 lbs. (was formerly about 200 lbs.)
