Was prescribed Cymbalta for depression, took Cymbalta for years. A few months ago I was prescribed over the recommended dosage. Woke up in massive pain 9-5-13. At Emergency they found blood in my spine, did CT scan and found blood around the brain. Transported to UC Davis Med Center. Originally diagnosed with brain aneurysm. Several surgeries no aneurysm found. Surgeons think it was a brain bleed resulting from serotonin reuptake inhibitor syndrome caused by Cymbalta. The brain bleed caused a brain stroke. Went through horrible jerking and sleeplessness for weeks in intensive care unit at UC Davis as a result of the withdrawals from Cymbalta. I was in UC Davis Medical Center in NSICU for about 6 weeks and was not released for the hospital until October 22nd. I have found that studies have shown that Cymbalta causes unusual 'Bleeds' and believe that Cymbalta caused the brain bleed that resulted in my stroke. I have suffered from depression all my life and have now been informed by the doctors that because of my condition caused by Cymbalta I will never be able to take any type of anti-depressant for the rest of my life which will result in ruining the quality of my life.

So do you think all those people suffering suffering from terminal illness with chronic pain should just roll over and die.

I would love to make Eli Lilly pay for what I'm going through! The withdrawal side effects were NEVER mentioned to me when I was prescribed these evil little pills. No where has Eli Lilly put warnings out about it. It's a terrible, terrible drug. How long will I be withdrawing for? I have taken Paxil and Efexor in the past and neither drug did this to me when it was time to come off. This drug had made me wary of seeking help in the future should my anxiety return.

Cymbalta is just another dangerous cash cow for drug companies that will do anything to make money. Read this story in the NYT's about it.

The Case for Another Drug War, Against Pharmaceutical Marketers’ Dirty Tactics

"“Could drugs be killing people but escaping all blame, leaving them to harm even more Americans until someone, finally, catches on?” Ms. Petersen asks. Given the information that her book uncovers, this a purely rhetorical question. Her study cites reckless and questionable behavior in all aspects of drug companies’ research and marketing ploys, even if much of this is familiar territory. It has been explored by earlier crusaders (notably Marcia Angell in “The Truth About the Drug Companies”) and in Ms. Petersen’s own journalism. She spent four years as a reporter covering the drug industry for The New York Times.

The newer and scarier material in “Our Daily Meds” concerns the increasingly serious consequences of Americans’ dependency on prescription drugs. Disagreeing with Iowa’s nosologist, Ms. Petersen says the lethal consequences of overprescribed or misprescribed drugs are too readily accepted as “natural” death. She cites the unwillingness of pathologists to question the wisdom with which doctors dispense medications. The reluctance of hospitals to perform autopsies, she says, has impeded medical research into what these interactions can do.

“Our Daily Meds” begins by illustrating the established drug-company practices that have led to this sorry juncture. There is the rigging of studies, so that to be deemed “effective” a drug need only perform better than a sugar pill. There are the promotional strategies that evade the need for F.D.A. warnings by, say, planting logos for the sexual enhancement drugViagra and the antidepressant Wellbutrin on Nascar vehicles. There is the co-option of doctors and university researchers by aggressive, payola-dispensing drug company representatives."

I not only had to deal with terrible withdrawal effects but I gained over 30 lbs on it after having a healthy fast metabolism. My metabolism stopped and everything went haywire. I now suffer from hypothyrodism and know 100% that it was caused from cymbalta. I have taken other antidepressants and Cymbalta had caused me so much heartache and ruined so many things. I hold resentment against my doctor for putting me on something so horrible for fibro pain. I never was informed to what this might possibly do. If I could file a lawsuit against Eli Lilly, I would in a heartbeat. I feel sorry for anyone who is put on this. There other ways and medications.

We just finished speaking with a Neuologist today about this. The withdrawl time seems to be in proportion to the amount of time you have been taking it. Out first week was a nightmare but I am seeing improvements but they are slow coming. Don't give up hope it just takes time. His Dr has pulled his drivers license until this clear so not driving is prudent. The one good thing we heard today is that everyone shee has seen so far has had their symptoms resolve but the amount of time varies per person. My prayers are with you God Bless

I took cymbalta for about 9 months in 2012 and knew it was a dangerously addictive drug. After suffering thru many sleepless nights, I found a web site and was able to slowly reduce the dosage and am now completely free do this awful substance that almost ruined my life. Go to "theroadback.org" and read their online book. It saved my life. Good luck
I am now searching for a class action lawsuit for this drug. Anyone out there that can help....please notify me. I am a 75 year old woman and I still need .

i had 2 major surgeries due to 4 ruptured disc in my cervical spine which caused permenant nerve damage. Up to the day I woke up like this I was very healthy for my age and active. I have tried to get off of cymbalta multiple times without success. This drug is dangerous! I have never had a problem getting off of any anti-depressant but trying to get off this drug could have sent me to the hospital, suicide or the mental ward. I have never been so sick and confused trying to get off a med- coworkers completely knew by day 3 that there was a big problem. Otherwise I have always had a perfect reviews at work and strong sense of trust-day 3 I took 1 cymbalta and within an hour I felt perfectly normal again. There is almost no way I can i keep my professinal job and try to get off this med. its dangerous

Cymbalta is an evil dangerous drug. I'm off of it for about a year and a half and still have some residual pain and discomfort. Lilly Drugs should pay for putting people like you and me in harms way.
