Thanks for sharing your update and experience, and so here's mine that I hope would shed some light. I did my surgery on the 12/1/2016 and currently recovering, what I would usually do apart from my daily Medical Routine (Lactulose, Ultracet - pain killer, Daflon 500, and Arcoxia - Swelling *only when required), I would soak my bottom in Salted warm water as it helps soothe the muscle around the Anus. After passing BM, I would get a Gauze 4 x 4" and sort of put it right at the Opening of the Anus to prevent any leakage, especially when the sudden BM urge comes, it doesn't help much, but it does help alot when it comes to bleeding. Now on the 21/1/2016, I experienced some terrifying bleed during my passing of BM. Blood was just everywhere, but to my surprise, I don't feel the usual "pain" around the Anus. Not sure if it's a good thing, but if I develop a Fever, that would be bad. Also, I just saw my Surgeon yesterday for a follow up, according to him, everything is fine, despite the painful probe he did to check the wound. Fingers crossed (no pun intended), I hope I won't develop a fever and will be able to update here again soon.

Soaking in tub definitely helps. Good luck!

First time posting but I thought I would give my assessment. I had 2 taken out because they were so painful I was on Percocet. Worst thing I have ever gone thru but it's finally getting better. Pain was really bad but I had an abscess form two different times which prolonged the suffering and were probably more painful than the rectomy. I was out of the office for a month but was able to work from my bed half the time. The leaking and bleeding started to subside after 3+ months after following the doctors orders to take meta mucil, but still not totally gone. Just hang in there if you have this done. It does get better.

I'm 5 months post operation. I also had two removed. Still leaking and bleeding. Did the doc suggest anything other than meta mucil? I'm not taking meta mucil right now but I will start that.

Mine was also extremely painful.. at least a month of high level pain and ongoing pain for another month or two after.

Hi , I had surgery 12 days ago. And I'm feeling not so bad. I still have swelling and leakage. The swelling is really annoying , ( mentally it's a real bother ) was just wondering how long your sweeling and leakage lasted ? It gets smelly and wet. Is this normal. Also I feel like constantly have to have a BM. I'm taking 2 stool softners and 1 tea spoon of meta mucil everyday. Could this have something to do with the constant BM feeling ? Got to stay in a good state of mind and be positive. But any tips or advice that anyone could shed would be great
Thanks

The constant BM feeling is related to the swelling and will subside as the swelling slows. If you are not feeling so bad after 12 days then you should heal pretty quickly by the sounds of it. I have no tips as such.. just drink plenty of water, and eat simple foods like lots of fruit..

Thanks for the response. How long does the swelling last for , or how long did it last for you. This just seems to be occupying my mind all day. How is your recovery going ? Where did you have your surgery ?
Thanks

I'm very curious if the problem still persists or if it has gotten any better. I'm on week two after surgery and dealing with the leakage problem. This wasn't even discussed with me prior to the surgery and it really is embarrassing. Does it get better with time?

Hi. I'm exactly 15 days today and still have leakage. It may have eased off just a bit but there is still leakage. I have read many different posts where they say this can last quite a while. Like 6-8 weeks. I still have swelling and hasn't come down much. Do you have any swelling ? Any tips on getting rid of the swelling. ? How are you feeling ?
Thanks

I had my surgery in August of 2014. Today is February 18, 2016. I still experience leakage and soreness. I have to wipe myself several times per day and end up excoriated and bleeding. I would think I would be healed entirely by now.

I've tried it all. MiraLAX is the only thing that works for me.

There's hope for you...hard at first, but ultimately I'm very happy with the operation after a month.

My surgery was 29-1-16, (31 days ago) doctor said "A LOT" of internal and one skin tag removed, repeated on follow up after a week that all was looking good, but "A LOT" had been removed. She said this as if it was up there as far as her case experience. The first day was easy due to numbing meds, days 2-5 pretty tough, getting a little better....went office job mostly back with some discomfort the 2nd week. First week return was really not an option due to the need for being near the bathroom in case of a messing episode. Was able to get a lot done remote.
After two weeks was pretty normal activity, short walks ok, some fluid like leakage continued with pads (FYI - pads have a back colored plastic, this is not a barrier, it is packaging, they work much better when that is removed and the adhesive holds in your underwear...wife and I had a hilarious laugh over this at the two week mark when she realized I was leaving the packaging on)....the healing is very slow, not like an injury on your expose skin, it only improves a week at a time, not every day, but at two weeks was feeling pretty good, changed to just Ibuprofen instead of the stronger meds,
At three weeks, mostly off the pain killers altogether, pads continued.
Fluid leakage seemed to subside....still a little and went off pads around 3-1/2 weeks.
Around this time, had another checkup and nurse instructed on gauze, which i've been using off and on, this is when I first noticed any fecal leakage which seemed to start rather suddenly, but was only a little...maybe a 1/4" x 3" soaking on the edge of the gauze.
Now after 4 weeks, I do still have a little fecal but it seems to be getting just a tiny bit better each day....seems like the 3 month advice will be about right. I'm feeling good, only a little discomfort, sitz after morning BM, shower, then gauze which I leave in for a couple hours, then wipe (at work), pretty clean after that for the rest of the day. Played in a poker tourney the other night at the 4 week mark, quite comfortable, even being the dealer for about 3 hrs....went out on a stupid play though (you need to be comfortable to play well)
Hope this helps, hang in there.

I had the surgery over 15yrs ago. deal with leakage to this very day. idk what to do. drives me crazy. it's like I have to plan my day around it, and the hemmoroids still make an appearance every once in a while.

Just that and hot baths. If it kept bleeding he was going to open me up and possibly do this thing to speed the healing (I think he called it magnesium something). 5 months out and I still leak after a bm but no blood.
