I had my operation 16 months ago. Since then I have suffering with an incontenant bowel. Unable to leave the house unless I take medication to stop any 'accidents'. Undergoing tests to see if my problem can be rectified. I didn't have problems before the operation so what has happened....

I have this same issue but all my issues started after my colonoscopy.  I knew I had large hemorrhoids...I call them roids.  Jun 2015, I had the colonoscopy.  Said everything looked great and no polyps but large internal roids and I should have a hemorrhoidectomy.  I put that off but immediately, the same day, after the colonoscopy, I developed mucus that I have never had before.  I mean instead of having a normal BM, I would have mucus.  Went back to the Gastro doc and they blamed the roids. I kept telling them I never had this issue until I had this colonoscopy.  They didn't listen.  So, I scheduled for the roidectomy in DEC 2015..in the meantime my regular doctor discovered I had H Pylori.  So, I got treated for that and then had the roidectomy.  Yes, it was horrible pain and I was out of work 4 weeks.  Since that roidecectomy, I developed anal stenosis and again H Pylori and had worse bleeding than with roids and again the mucus. .  Surgeon did an anal dilation and flex sig to check again and fixed a tear he found in there. This was MAY 2016  He did biopsy which showed moderate acute colitis.  Really odd since I was ok until the colonoscopy.  Three days after this, I was still bleeding and stool was again thin due to anal stenosis and mucus again.  Saw Gastro doc in JUN who has me scheduled for an EGD 26 JUL but they still ignore the issues with my rectum.  They want to do the EGD because I am still burping at night and to see if the H Pylori is gone and if it did any damage.  The only symptoms I had for H Pylori was angular cheilitis. (Sores and cracks in corner of mouth).  My insides have been screwed up since I did the colonoscopy.  I would never suggest one unless you feel you have issues.  I would NEVER suggest a hemorrhoidectomy either.  I wish I still had mine.  Now, I have a leaking anus that leaks foul smelling stuff and worse bleeding than I had with my roids.  I don't feel like I will ever be normal again.  Wish I could go back in time.

Be a MAN and talk to your doctor... I'm sure he's a MAN and knows exactly what you mean. I had my surgery 29 years ago, and yes, there is still anal leakage.. Its due to the muscles not being as tight as before and they never will be. It's not bad, just requires an additional wipe about 20 minutes after the initial deposit, after that, no more leakage until the next deposit.

29 years for me, and still a small amount of leakage but it only requires an additional wipe 20 minutes after the initial one.

Jesus Christ guys... you guys are talking about 9 months, a few years, and now this guy says nearly 30 years with leakage...

You guys need to talk to your doctors. That isn't normal and it can be fixed.

I too am a week after surgery & have little leakage. Nevertheless it's fecal matter seapage & smell like somthing died up there. Also no matter how soft my sh*t is still feels like sh**ting out broken glass. My horrible surgeon did tell me anything after surgery, in fact he wasn't even around after the procedure. Also never recieved any pain pills, so my recovery has been a rough one so far.

I have had the watery leakage for about 1.5 years now but I had the last of 2 hemmorhoid surgeries about 4 years ago. I've talked to many doctors who have prescribed many things but nothing has really worked except baclofen but that makes me really drowsy. Doctor's say it is IBS so I don't know what to think or do anymore.

I am 3 months post op. I do not know how you are bearing the pain with no meds!!! I was in the worst pain I had ever been in for about 5 days. Going to the bathroom got easier after a couple weeks... Warm baths/sitz baths were there only thing that gave me any relief after going. The leakage only lasted about 3-4 weeks for me UNLESS I got constipated. Un scented flushable wipes help a lot with the discomfort from the leakage. After about a month of wanting to assassinate my surgeon for telling me this was the best option I am happy I did it. As long as I stay on top of taking a stool softener everyday and not letting myself get backed up. Good luck! It will get better!

I have just went through a Hemorrhoidectomy I never wiped after a BM and it was the best idea I had. I have a removable shower head and after going I got right in the shower and allowed a light spray to clean myself. Believe me, it really worked. I t relieved the pain almost instantly because I used very warm water. If that didn't get rid of all the pain, I would have a sitz bath. All I had to do is towel the water off. Since I didn't wipe, I didn't irritate the tissues. I was hurting so bad the first day that I couldn't stand the thought of wiping with that gauze they recommend. You can really get clean with the shower right on the area. I'm in my 12th day and have very little pain and I sit up almost all day.

I am almost 4 months post op. I had one internal & 1 external hemorrhoid removed.....I've made it through he worst part of the pain & bleeding, however I am also still having the leakage. I never had this before the surgery! Is it because the muscle at the end is now damaged???? Is this going to go away?? I was only supposed to have 1 follow up visit after the surgery and have been back 2 additional times already. He said I wasn't haven't leakage, but probably residual feces left after my bowel movement, told me to take Benefiber twice a day.........I have been doing that and still have the leakage..this is no residual, it is leakage..I can feel that my butt is not as tight as it used to be........I just want to cry even while I am writing this. How am I supposed to deal with this???? Is there another surgery that will fix this problem or just make it worse?? I am a single young woman and this is devastating to me :-(

I had surgery almost a year ago.
I don't have full leakage as I have been reading about here. No pads needed.
However, the leakage is at a level of not staying fully clean in between bathroom visits. I use wet wipes to help with cleanliness. TP seems to make it worse.

So it's now a month later and 5 months post-op.......I have had one episode of bleeding in the past week.....still having a problem with he so-called leakage... Maybe I wouldn't really call it leakage as much as what you said of not feeling or being able to stay clean in between bathroom visits. I am also carrying wipes with me. I have found a brand that is called "Water Wipes" 99.9% percent water only, so they are extremely gentle. Perhaps I was never perfectly clean between visits but never really paid that much attention before.....I don't think so though. It is still a little disheartening...but getting better. For now I just keep hoping that someday I'll feel back to normal.
