Same problem as everyone else. Isolated sore area on the left side of my throat. Hurts when I swallow or stick my tongue out. I though initially it was a canker sore after eating tomato soup, but I've been gargling with warm salt water and that hasn't helped. I've never smoked and I've had my tonsils out for years. I don't know what to do. I've had tooth pain on the same side for a while, so I don't know if it is an infection that has spread to my throat.

It is quite possible that stiff neck muscles and/or torn cartilage in the jaw area can cause referred pain into the throat, ear, neck and tongue. I periodically stress the muscles in the left side of my neck when working out. This first causes crackling in my left jaw whenever I yawn or open my mouth wide. The crackling isn't painful in and of itself but then I begin to develop a sore throat and a sore tongue on the LEFT side of my throat and tongue only. My left ear can even feel a dull pain -- or sting. I can take weeks for the symptoms to completely subside. When the crackling in the jaw goes away the other symptoms do too. If you have tried a variety of antibiotics, antacids etc. to no avail, you might consider discussing your problem with an ENT which specific focus on muscle stiffness and or a TMJ problem.

I too have the same problem. I have taken many antibiotics, antihistamines and pain killers. ENT specialists say it is because of allergic tonsils. I still have pain in the left side of the throat and I feel helpless.

I have also faced the same problem months ago .I took the medicines and also did gargle with warm water regularly for a month. Then I got relief. Warm water is very good for sore throat and cough. One can also take garlic tea it is also a nice solution for throat problems.

I've had this problem for about 15 yrs. I went to 9 different ENT'S in Houston and one in Tyler. They all say they can't find anything. Sometimes it hurts so bad I can hardly stand it. Also if I get something rich on it like rich chocolate or something spicy like barbeque sauce my throat will contract to the point I can't catch my breath. Throat lozenges are the only thing that seem to help.

Can y'all stand another complaint? So, over the past year have had that same pain in left side of throat, and it's a b***h to swallow without pain. Have had this reoccur every few months or so. Called Doc, he said he did not think it was strep and not to worry about it.Yeah, easy for him to say, right, cause one of the first things u think is the BIG C! It seems to hang around for no longer than 3 days or so. I now tend to believe it does have something to do with sinus issues and that drip which is directly going to the pain site. I only started getting sinus issues in the past year, so this very well may be the culprit. You'd think an ENT doc would know this and agree if this were the case. I also was able to look into mouth with flashlight and could see, what I believe are my tonsils, and the left side is quite swollen. If anyone here finds out anything different, please, do tell!...thanx,
