Looks like I'm joining this long list.

I've had a history of ear-infections (mostly as a child) and had gotten 'tubes' when I was really young. I seem to be prone to getting sick, and about 10 years back or so I began getting chronic bronchitis pretty much every time I got sick. It'd usually start with a cold or flu, turn into a sinus infection, then go into my lungs. Usually it'll go up and down between the sinuses and lungs several times (and months) until finally it goes away gradually.

Well, I thought it was the same thing recently, everyone was getting sick, I anticipated the same for myself, and sure enough I got sick with a cold. I went to the doc, demanded that he prescribe whatever needed to be prescribed (I live in Canada, sorry Americans). Well, he prescribed Biaxin, Ventolin, and Flovent. I took the Biaxin for the 10 days as directed, as well as taking the puffers. Well, the pain in my neck (literally) started within days of me finishing the Biaxin.

When I got my prescriptions, I was told that after the Flovent, I should always rinse my mouth (which I did) as it could cause thrush. Well, I've been doing the rinsing, however it's hard to rinse the throat.

Some other notables: I've been a pot smoker for about 8 years (less time than I've had the chronic bronchitis), I don't drink too often, I live in Southern Ontario (Just NW of New York for those who don't know) in the outskirts of Toronto. I'm 26, I have had issues with my tonsils in the past but have never had them removed. In fact, I think I should have had them out years ago but doctors don't like to do that anymore. I only seem to get the pain when I yawn open-mouthed (I've been trying to force my mouth to stay closed, it helps A LOT). I do have TMJ problems. I haven't had any numbness of the tongue (yet), and I haven't seen or noticed any physical signs of a real issue -- just that pain.

Recap:
-Pain only when I yawn, left side, feels like it shoots down from my left tonsil -- or up from the left side of my adam's apple.
-TMJ, Inner-Ear, Sinus, and Lung issues in the past
-Recent illness including Sinus/Lung issues
-Recently off of Antibiotics (Biaxin) just days before this began

Answers, anyone, please?

today is december 13, 2009. last night at about 7pm i went over to a friend's house. i was absolutely fine up until the point that i ate two small christmas sugar cookies that they had just baked. one had sprinkles, one had a red-hot. after eating such deliciousness, about 15 minutes later i noticed a really strong pain on the back left of my throat everytime i swallowed. it feels like it is at the base of my tongue on the left bottom but also up along the wall of my throat on the left side (in the back of my mouth, not below my jawbone). i was a bit taken by surprised, and i drank some water. i complained about it, and we agreed that it must have been the cookies (in a joking way), but i dont really think it's their fault.

today i woke up and at first didn't notice much. i made breakfast and it became very painful to swallow my food. it radiates into my ear, with that pain being much sharper, but i do not have any other ear pain. if i don't do much, and try to keep it still, it is a more dull, less centralized, deep, non-specific pain. if i clear my throat, or start trying to swallow a lot, it becomes a sharper, more dry pain. if i yawn, and then swallow, i actually recieve a small amount of relief. it is less painful for that moment.

i was sick on december 4th through december 8th, but it was a very mild cold. i had 1 night of a mild fever, and the rest was mostly just stuffy/runny nose. it didnt affect me a whole lot. so it had been 4 days after being sick, that this happened.

i still have my tonsils, i've never had any tonsil or sinus infections, etc. i've looked in my tonsillar crypts and they appear to be empty at the moment. visually, i dont see any changes in my tonsils or throat.

Today is Dec 29th 2009. At approx 7:30 tonight me and my boyfriend went to his grandmother's house to pick up our daughter and he ate a sugar cookie on the way out. After our 15 min ride home he complained that the left side of his throat suddenly hurt. He called his gma and joked that her cookies made him sick. We really don't know what is wrong though. He has had a problem with his tonsils and has for years but felt just fine up until he ate that sugar cookie. I just got on google and so happened to find this post. I don't know if the sugar cookies are a coincidence of if it is an important factor, but I would like to know what the person who made the first post on Dec 13th 3009 figured out what happened or what was wrong. My boyfriend is 23yrs old and never was on antibiotics, at least not for a few years. He tried sore throat spray but it didn't help at all. He had a lil stuffy nose a week ago but nothing serious. He doesn't have any ear pain, at least not yet. Please help. Thanks in advance.

I recently went to the doctor for what i though was a strep throat. and It was but I also found out I had an ear, and sinus infiection. It's very common she said when you leave one of this type of infections untreated it spreads really easily. My infection was getting so far that the bone behind my ear was starting to hurt. IF YOU HAVE PAIN BEHIND YOUR EARS, GET TO A DOCTOR A.S.A.P!!!!!! this means the infection is getting to the bone, potentially damaging nerves and other things on it's way.

I've been on antibiotics for almost a week now, and the infection seems to be dying off, but I still have this sharp pain in my left side of my throat. it almost feels like I have a cut or something and whenever I eat something that could irritate it it begins to hurt. I'm going back to the doctor in a tomorrow or the day after so I'll let you know what the deal is.

it gets worse in the morning and throughout the day it's almost non existente.

I sleep with my mouth open, so this could have something to do with my throat and lately has been kind cold in the am, but we'll see what the good doc says. my infection (to my knowledge) is almost gone, and the fever, and runny nose, and fatigue too. I read somewhere that some people could develop a mucus-holding cyst, which kinda makes sense.

could someone elaborate on that?

Hey guys.It seems to me like you may have "Strep Throat" It is a baterial infection on your tonsils and it hurts like hell when you swallow, yawn, eat, drink etc. You wanna go to the doctor because strep doesnt go away without antibiotics and it is highly contagious. I hope this information helped. If you have anymore questions just look up "Strep Throat" on Google and youll find lots of information regarding your questions.

I have had very similar symptoms shortly after an urgent care doc told me I had viral bronchitis. Had a bad cold which seemed to turn into the bronchitis. Now that the coughing is starting to subside I started to get pain where the left tonsil used to be spreading down to just under the back left side of the tongue. I looked way back and there are 2 pink coloured bumps, one about the size of a pea and one slightly larger below it. A little redder tonight than they were yesterday. Does anyone else have similar bumps even though there are no tonsils remaining? Have a doc appt day after tomorrow. Hoping I just need a good course of strong antibiotics that will clear it up. Have also had a lot of post-nasal drip and mucous at night leading up to this.
Any definite diagnoses for anyone yet?
