Hi. I`m 47 and have arthritis of the hip joint. My right hip dislocates and I have a severe pain. Also, my left leg is an inch too long. My foot points the wrong way and I`m not able to walk. My doc told me that I will have to go to the hospital to relocate the hip. So I did, but now I can feel that my operated leg is too long. What now?

Hi. I had a hip replacement also and must say that many patients complaint that the operated leg is too long. But nothing to worry about, it`s just a false sensation and it will go away in a month or two. Important to know that maybe you could be right. You will know in a couple of months. Accurate measurement is very difficult while surgery is in progress, and I guess it is quite a common thing to end up with up to one inch less. Leg lengths are measured from pelvis to the ankle and from navel to the ankle again. Normal persons have both lengths equal. So, if hip is abducted, you will feel like one of your leg is too long. If hip is adducted, you will feel that your leg is too short.
