Hi, I know the question you asked was over a year ago, but I'm still going to tell you about my Lisfranc experience. I was injured in a head on car accident and i recived a severe Lisfranc dislocation with crushing of the cuniuform. I was put back together in Modesto, CA in 2002. I went back to work in about 4 months (not long enough off, I should have taken at least twice that long). It took over a year before I got really better and there was constant pain for the first 3 years after the accident. I had one really good year where I did not really notice any pain unless I gave the foot really hard workout. I have not done any running since the injury accept as nessessary for emergencies. As for swimming, this seems to be o.k. but it does hurt more then walking since it flexes the foot in a backwards kind of way. I am back to pain several times a week and for several days after I work the foot more then standard walking. My doctor told me I could expect to get about 8 years out of it before I would need to have it fused together. I am at 7 years now and plan on doing everything I can to push it another 6 years, so I can retire before the fusing. I took a long, steep, hike last summer and the foot did not seem any worse afterwards then if I had just worked in the yard really hard. I get new orthotics every year and they really do seem to help. My injury was a workman's Comp. injury so I am lucky in that the medical bills will always be covered.
Hi there! Just be sure that you don't push yourself so far! It would be better you don't cripple yourself permanently even if you're pushing for not having to go through all the hassle. Thanks for sharing your story--I really enjoyed reading about it. Thank you.
