This always happened to me too. I've learned ways to prevent it for a little while, but not altogether. You should drink a lot of water because sometimes when your stomach grumbles, it just means your thirsty. Try to eat before class because it will fill your stomach up a bit. Don't eat or drink too fast because you'll get gas bubbles which will pop in your stomach. I also have these things called TicTacs. They are just small white tablet looking sweets which you can get in many different flavours. I get mint. Whenever you feel like your stomach is about to grumble just suck on one. Any small sweet works actually. I never leave my house without them. If you can, stand up and walk about when you think it's going to happen. It helps. Also, this is the hardest one but try not to think about it. You'll make yourself nervous and it will happen. Your stomach is connected somehow to your emotions. Good luck with this

I have like the same issue. I have had it since at least a year and a half ago. I think I get it when I'm really nervous and anxious. for me, sometimes walking helps or a drink of water or bouncing my knee a lot, but sometimes I think the bouncing of the knee and drinking water is more of a superstition. I truly wish it would go away. I don't care about it when I'm with my friends or at home but if its at school, a quiet place, or class or strangers, I freak out. I worry about it more than concentrating on my studies. I worry so much that I don't listen as well and don't learn as much. It scares me every day when I have to go to class now because of it. I'm afraid people would think I farted or something, another thing that sometimes help me is when I have an icy drink like a smoothie with ice crystals. It makes me think that it temporarily pauses or freezes the grumbles.

I am in college and I have been struggling with this problem for about 8 years. Nobody understands how embarrassing and debilitating it is. I registered with the Office for Students with Disabilities, so I am allowed to take quizzes and exams in a separate room. They also let me tape record lectures because I often step outside when my symptoms start up. The best thing you can do is talk to the school counselor and psychiatrist because they will provide you with accommodations. Also, talk to your professors and let them know the situation. Most of them are willing to help.

I'm so glad I found this forum even if most of the entries are inactive from being posted years ago. But I thought I would share my story. I am 23 and recently graduated college (1 year ago this May) and I moved to a different town to begin my career. However, since moving 6 months ago I've noticed that my stomach and guts have gone crazy. From morning to noon to night, my digestive system screams, whines, and all things in between. I work in a quiet office, so it is very audible and extremely embarrassing. I often bounce my knee, take sips of water, rustle papers, etc. to muffle the noise - but sometimes they're too loud to coverup. And when it's really bad, I'll snake my hand just in to the top of my pants and kind of "hold" my stomach and gut in place - for some reason I've notice pressure helps reduce the sounds. But this does not eliminate them completely, they still happen but are muffled by my hand.

Not only do I get stomach rumbles/growling, but I also get very high pitched digestive noises. It kind of sounds like water rushing through my system - but I don't often get diarrhea strangely enough. I can also feel my guts as the sounds happen, if that makes sense? It's almost like they're vibrating as the sounds happen? That's the only way I can think to describe it. I am not in pain though, or bloated. But I do get nauseous often. And my stomach will start growling even if I've already eaten just 30 minutes prior.

I have tried taking fiber pills, Culturelle, drinking chamomile tea, exercising more, cutting out all caffeine from my diet, no soda, no coffee, more fruit and cooked veggies, taking gas relief pills - but have not found something that is a long-lasting solution. Culturelle worked for a month and then the sounds came right back (although I will admit that I'm back on them now just to find some small and temporary relief). Fiber pills made my digestive system go crazy - some days I would go to the bathroom 4 times a day and others just one, so it was very irregular. Chamomile tea before bed use to help, but lately it hasn't been doing much for me. I've read about charcoal pills, but have been having trouble finding them in stores. So, I am really at my wits end with this.

I have read through this whole thread and decided to try the olive oil and diluted ACV tips. I took a tablespoon of olive oil this morning, then took a culturelle, and now I am sipping on 8 oz of water mixed with 1-1.5 tablespoons of ACV and I get a few sounds every hour or so - and compared to when I woke up this morning, where the noises where constantly loud for hours, I am taking this as a good sign.

But I'm still at a loss at why this has suddenly happen to me. Six months ago, my body was fine and I wasn't even treating it that well! I got minimal exercise and ate out often, but now that I exercise more and choose healthier options, my gut has gone crazy. I thought I would give it time just in case my change in diet was too radical for my body to handle but after nearly 7 months and these sounds are still persisting, I know that there is something internally wrong. I'll be going to a gastroentologist tomorrow morning - but as a walk-in patient so I'm not sure they'll be able to fit me in, but I hope to make an appointment and get a diagnosis. I will defiantly follow up with you guys with what happens after that!

This situation has made me so depressed and self-conscious and I've been so ignorant of it - just thinking that it would naturally go away on it's own - but I refuse to let this thing take control of my life any longer. I highly recommend you guys look into seeing specialists, as I will be doing the same!

I had this same issue in college classes and I wen to the doctor with this issue. At first they thought it might be IBS, but I wasn’t having cramping or diarrhea so another doctor had a more reasonable answer. He figured it was acid reflux and as soon as I took Zantac or other forms of it my problems and constant growling and noises soon went away.

UPDATE TO THIS POST:
After getting a few blood tests, my doctor ruled out H.pylori or SIBO, but I did test positive for a Vitamin D deficiency and had signs of inflammation. He put me on a two week trial of Dexilant (a PPI) to help regulate my stomach acid and it worked pretty well for about two days before all my issues returned full force and seemingly even louder. So I decided to stop the Dexilant and that's when I began to experience intense and constant hunger and a burning sensation in the stomach. I consulted with him again and we decided that since the PPI was not working that well we would schedule an endoscopy - which I had done this morning. We went over the images from the procedure right after that and it turns out I have GERD and stress gastritis - which means that a little bit of blood and a lot of stomach acid gets drained into my small intestine and irritates the digestive tract by making it work overtime and thus the disgusting gurgling gut noises occurs. He is getting a few samples biopsied, so I won't get any medication until a week and half from now, but now I finally diagnosed the issue and will be working towards correcting it.

If you have insurance, I highly suggest you look into seeing someone to get your medical mysteries solved! It took time and money but I am very happy I pursued this.

I had this problem in school as well but I noticed that if I emptied my bowels and reduced the amount of gas in my digestive system there was a lot less noise. I would eat fiber cereal every morning to ensure a bowel movement the following day and I would drink mint tea to rid my system of excessive gas. This may sound like a lot but I had to do this to make sure I could go to school and focus.
