All these posts have helped me to try and find a solution. So I set out to find out whats was causing my constant gas, growling stomach. My doctor said of course "It could be IBS" - which I didn't believe. Anyways i cleared my system for 2 weeks. Lots of water, stopped all vitamins and stopped the restaurant foods and fatty snacks. I'm not overweight - 180 lbs 5'9 and play pickup hockey indoors. I was still having problems after each meal, and it was getting real annoying and embarrassing. So after ton of reasearch online I found out that a lot of us are not getting enough nutrients (omega-3's) from the foods we eat.
I take one of these everyday around 10:00 am which is my first snack since i do 6 meals a day (breakfast lunch dinner, small snacks in between (snacks and usually fruits during the weekdays) and nothing at night). I do still splurge on weekends with outside food, chips (my fav), alcohol.

It seriously cut down my problem 95% and this is my second month on it. I have not started any other vitamin yet.
good luck!

I can sympathise with you because I suffered the same morbid embarassment as you obviously do. Even though my stomach growls occasionally it does not do so during periods of extended quiet. I would suggest holding your breath just when you think your stomach is going to growl. Hold your breath and don't let the air out till you are sure your stomach's behaving. Do this a couple of times and your stomach should stop growling. Also avoid big meals before a period when you know will be quiet. I hope it works.

I have this too. It is caused by a bacteria that is passed through saliva. Did you kiss someone that has this, share drinks, or share utensils? I got it from a kiss. The guy didn't even use his tongue, but there was definite saliva swappage. Now my stomach growls like his.
You can go to a dentist that does "oral dna" testing. There are 3 oral dna tests. One for genetic predisposition for periodontal disease, one for oral hpv testing, and one for bacterial analysis. Get the one for bacterial analysis. Unfortunately the test is so new that insurance will not cover it. It will cost around $175. For best results, don't gargle any mouthwash before going, as this could momentarily reduce the bacteria in your mouth.
The bacteria on my chart says it's "refractive" as in, resists treatment. But there were other bacteria on my chart as well, so you may not have the same ones I have. The guy that gave this to me has had it for about 15 years. He knew he was giving it to me but went ahead anyway. He did not warn me.

I just want to add, I know with 100% certainty that this is passed through saliva. Saliva is the only thing me and this guy swapped. There was no down and dirty or even "feely uppy." All of my symptoms mirror his.
What's more, when I first told him about my stomach problems, he asked if I had a white tongue. I said no, but then 3 months after the kiss I got the first white tongue of my life. The reason people are not connecting this with saliva is because it takes time for the symptoms to show. It was about a month after the kiss when the borborygmi started for me.
Everyone has been taught to believe saliva is safe. Sharing drinks and kissing are so common. Stomach problems are also so common. Not all stomach problems are contagious, but this one is!

Hello everyone,
I too have the same embarrasingly loud stomach noise problem and I was diagnosed to have an underlying Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Heres what worked for me ... I avoid dairy products and artificial sweetners and I take "Stelbid 1mg" (Isopropamide and Trifluoperazine) tablet.... one BEFORE breakfast and one BEFORE dinner (if required)....it is IMPORTANT to have this medicine BEFORE food and NOT after!!!..... kindly note, this table has a side-effect....a dry mouth and sleepiness/drowsiness.......something we can easily put up with than those embarassing moments our stomach puts us through.....and yes.....having bananas after meals really does help.....last but not the least....have plenty of water.......I hope .....this works for you all too!!!........Enjoy life to the fullest!!! God Bless you all !!! :-)

I have a similar problem. Heres what i did and it works for me. I take 1 Zinetac and 1 Stelbid tablet BEFORE breakfast and BEFORE Lunch....and BEFORE dinner but only if required. I avoid artificial sweetners, milk and milk products and uncooked/undercooked food. Have 1 banana after lunch and 2 after dinner....have enough water from time to time. Do not have too much of Stelbid tablet in one day. Stelbid dries the mouth and makes you sleepy. I hope this helps you. God Bless. Love from India....

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about!! The insanely loud noises always happen when I am nervous/stressed or in quiet places. It has seriously made me not want to leave the house,I've had to drop classes because of the anxiety it caused me..after looking online for months I found a few tricks that have helped me! I have a little routine before I go to work and school now..When I first wake up, I do stretches, then walk/job on my treadmill for 15-20 minutes. Exercising and stretching helps me go to the the bathroom(which I always have an issue with in the morning & I think that could be part of the problem) While I get ready, I drink a cup of peppermint tea to settle my stomach. I also read a tablespoon of olive oil before every meal helps. I usually only take it in the morning but it DEFINITELY helps. Saltines and pretzels have become my best friend. Besides that I keep Pepto chewables on me at all times. I know it seems like a lot but it gets me through the day. Oh and I have tried quite a few different probiotics..they did NOT help at all. I would like to go see a Gastrologist soon..hopefully they have a better way to solve this stomach growling issue. Hope this helps!

Great to find this site. I most drink coffee on week days, and occasionally on week ends -- Most of my growling happens at work, so the growling could be caused by stress, caffeine or both. Will try to avoid coffee and see what happens.
