I have been on methadone since 1999 & it's now 10/07. I prespire profusely & am wondering IF it's from my methadone intake and WHY methadone makes me prespire ALL THE TIME, no matter how cold it is outside....

I know what you mean as I sweat profusely a well even to the point of embarrassment but what can u do
I have the same problem. It is the Methadone.
I have recently heard about a nw medication called biperiden that supposedly helps immensely in stopping the profuse sweating accompanied by methadone maintenance. I am going to be talking to my doctor about it next week and will keep you all posted.

Recently I have heard of a medacation that helps with this extreemely. I am going to be asking my doctor about this next week. It is called biperiden. I will keep you all posted on the info that I find out.

"skee1515" Definetly get back to me on that biperiden and what your doc says about it. Sweating is supposed to be a common side effect of all opiates but I think it is worse with Methadone.
I'm guessing it has to do with the anticholinergic effect of Biperiden.
skee1515 I as well would like to hear about what all you learn about the biperiden because I knot that sweating is very stressful for people who suffer from methadone withdrawal so I would like to know what you have to say. It seems that a lot of people who post here on the forums have issues with it so any insight you find will definitely benefit a lot of people.
healthnfitnessguy I am not talking about sweating from Mathadone WITHDRAWAL. I am talking only about the sweating that is a side effect of its use, in my case for pain.
I have the same prblem wth Methadone, Excessive Sweating. It is also called Hyperhydrosis, not spelled correctly. I am seeing y doctor @day Biperiden. Ill let u all kno what my doctor says whe i get home later 2day..
I have been on 10 mg methadone 3 x day for years for chronic back pain. The sweating side effects, though they come and go have recently gotten so bad "again" that I cannot take it any longer! I wonder if it's not worse than the pain I'm trying to get relief from! yesterday I had to step outside at -38 below for some relief! I like the methadone in that it helps with the pain without making me feel weird or "high" or sleepy. But this sweating has got to go!! After searching the web I'm hearing stuff about med's like oxybutynin, Catapres or CLonidine, a vitamin called vitadone - all of which people say have helped some, now I'm hearing about biperiden. I have an appt tomorrow will talk to my doc about this. My concern about adding another medication is more side effects from yet another medication! I'm sick of feeling crappy, and sick of taking med's. But what's a gal to do? Life goes on! :-) anyone have any relief from above mentioned med's w/o more new side effects?
hi, iv just bin lookin myself for somethin to stop me sweatin as im on the methadone 2 and avin exactly the same problem.its not nice at all. i had 2 get out of town yesterday wen i was shoppin as i couldnt cope wiv it. sweat drippin from my head then i av 2 take my jacket n that off.it makes me feel like a nutter. im so glad that u people know what im goin through as iv spoke 2 a couple of friends and they dont get what i get. iv even thought about reducing because of it. now i see that i may be able 2 get somethin 4 it i will ask the doctor.as soon as i get sum news i will let u all know :-)

ive been on methadone for years,i thought it was just me,i sweat so bad that im soaked,no one seems to understand,i can just be sitting watching tv when all of a sudden i overheat like crazy and sweat pours out of me,after about 15 mins it subsides and i dry off .lol. im sick of changing my shirts 10 mins after putting them on,ive heard theres medication that can stop it but i dont want to take more drugs...time to get off the sh*t i think.
I've been on methadone for 10 years and went from 210mg when first started now I got down to 65mg, thinking going down in dosage might help relief my sweats. Sorry to say it's just as bad as it was in the beginning. I tried clonodine and oxybutin both say that it's action is to help reduce excessive sweating. Not for me, it did noting for me it was like taking placebo. I found out that it works for some but not for others.
