Could very well be a cyst. I would talk to your primary physician that is the only way to actually find out what it is for sure. But it definitely sounds like an epidermoid cyst.

Hi, I've had a lump in my neck just above my adams apple and slightly to the right for about 3 months now, its definitely got bigger over time. Over the last week or so i've had pains in my neck when i look up & down and when I open my mouth/yawn. The lump moves a little bit and is hard. All around the area where the lump is has become very tender. I phoned the doctors this morning and explained and they asked me to go in straight away. The doctor examined the lump and said try not to worry and has arranged for me to be booked in for a scan with a waiting time of up to 8 weeks.

Trying not to worry about it- has anyone else got any experiences?

Hi guys,

26 year old male here, I have had the same experience - found a small, pea sized lump above my thyroid bone and Adams apple, to the left.
I'm quite prone to worry and think it's cancer as soon as I find anything on my body, I went to the doctors and he said the chances of that were incredibly low. From his examinations and the fact that my health is pretty great generally it was diagnosed as a benign cyst. Got blood tests to set my mind at ease and everything came up fine so I'm inclined to agree.
I understand it's worrying and to be honest I still get worried about it every now and again. The key things to keep an eye on are if it grows of not over time - mine has stayed the exact same size for about a year now (apart from one time I had appendicitis, was on antibiotics and it shrunk for a few days). If it does get bigger over a few weeks, see you doctor.
Otherwise, try to remember the possibilities of it being some benign far outweigh the chance of it being something to worry about. In fact, worrying about it will probably do more harm than it ever will.

Sorry if I've rambled guys, but I thought I'd get everything out there, as I've been in the same situation as a lot of people here.

Take care, everybody!

Women DO have an Adam's apple; it's just not as large as a man's Adam's apple. I have two small small lumps under my chin and just above my Adam's apple. One is pea-size and the other is barely there. No pain and they are moveable. Two doctors have told me that they have never seen this before. I'm going to have surgery to remove them and the doctor will send to a lab to be analyzed. No CT scan for me....they cause cancer.

Your thyroid is below your Adam’s apple, not above
