2 weeks ago I found a 1/2 lump in the upper left portion of my scrotum about 1 inch from the base of my penis. It is under the skin and I would describe as feeling like a large mosquito bite when held between my thumb and index finger. Light does pass through when I shine a light through my scotum (I understand this is good method of self diagnosis) There is no pain. I have been to see my GP and there is was no swelling in my lymph nodes. I will be going for an ultrasound in 1 week.
How concerned should I be? How likely is this lump to be malignant?

May be something simple like an absess or something. Sounds wierd but try shoving savoy cabbage leaves down there when you can and leave them as long as you can as they draw stuff out sometimes(pregnant ladies shove them in their bras to help with mastitus when feeding) and i read that it may help with things like this to. Dont worry , its more likely to be something not very serious.
