I am not a Dr. But I think alot of you with tinnitus might want to read about Menieres Disease to compare other symptoms you may have.

Has anyone ever thought about maybe the cannabis keeps the overall symptoms of tinnitus at bay & when you quit consuming cannabis the effects of the tinnitus are amplified because the cannabis isn't in your system anymore?

I have tinnitus in both ears, & have had for decades. Everything you shouldn't do to your ears I've done. Loud music concerts, industrial equipment, smoking tobacco for 2 decades, jamming things in them when I was a kid, everything that you shouldn't do I did. It's gotten better since I quit tobacco and caffeine this year. Cannabis helps me keep my mind on other things and off my tinnitus but when I combust it the tinnitus gets worse almost immediately then eases off after 10 minutes or so. When I vape(use convection) cannabis the effects on my tinnitus are not as noticeable. Keeping in mind that combustion of cannabis occurs between 900+ to 1300 degrees F. While vaporizing cannabis happens at a cool 380 degrees F approximately. Edibles are not available to me but I am interested in testing their effects on my tinnitus.

I postulate that the act of combusting cannabis and/or inhaling from a restrictive apparatus is why the tinnitus is amplified during use & that if using a different not-combusting and/or non-restrictive means of consumption the tinnitus may not flare up as badly during use.

Just wanted to say this pretty much mirrors my experience and I have been wondering the same thing. I also wonder :
*If particular strains and methods of consumption of cannabis stops the "brain chatter" involved with stress and anxiety, it makes sense to me that the symptoms of tinnitus could be relieved as a direct result.
*If an individual is susceptible to allergy or some other condition that might flare up their sinus/ear canal/etc due to inhalation (or perhaps simply perception of changes in blood pressure), perhaps the temporary increase in tinnitus symptoms can be attributed to this - if after a minute the symptoms are suppressed.

speak with me please or anyone with the same symptoms. I have tinnitus in both ears, my right is almost twice as load. I also been smoking for years, but I had an ear infection on both ears and now the ringing wont go away. Its been over 3 months and still the same. I researched a lot of this and it can be caused by many factors. seriously if anyone wants to discuss this I too am going nuts at night cause I can't sleep and tinnitus causes bruxia or clenching of teeth, as well as insomnia and many other bad affects that are too long to list. So please anyone who suffers from tinnitus feel free to hit me up. I live in Cali and have seen many ENT and Audiologists as well.

Dude your spot on. I too had a bad cold and headache and was taking advil pm over 600 mg at night to sleep for about 1 week. Then I got an ear infection and sore throat and thought that might have caused it. Also I saw a lot of ENT doctors and audiologists and had hearing tests, that showed I was good with no problems on only the ringing stayed. Now I don't smoke weed cause its makes it louder and frankly intolerable. I researched that high doses of any over the counter pills can cause the ringing. In small letters most medications say that. Yet when you ask any doctor they say it's impossible. I'm getting really fed up to where I might just do something very irrational and make some big headlines if these so called life savers/ doctors don't help. I have seen over 10 doctors and all of them said deal with it. It doesn't go away. Cool, lets see how they can cope with missing a limb, or ruptured Achilles, or pencil in their ear. Well hope you feel a bit better by now and everyone else living with this issue cause it can make people lose their minds and do some crazy shet. Take care brothers

IDK if anyone will read this because this thread is so old but the ringing is not malevolent. It's just you. the body, just like the earth, rings like a bell. The heart, just like the earth, radiates with a powerful electromagnetic field. harmonics carried upon its sine curve can be found therein. They are called the chakras. These subtle energy systems permeating you can be manipulated willfully through meditation. listen to some binaural beats (12hzAlpha), focus on that tone you hear and use it like a tuning fork to bring all of your chakras into harmony. then you will become gods like us.

Hi, I came across your post and I instantly sympathized. I know what it's like to not be in control of your own body. It can be scary, eye opening, and a very anxious experience in general.
I have been a long time cannabis user. I fully understand what it does.
There are pros and cons to it.

One thing you need to understand, is...
There ARE withdrawl symptoms from cannabis.

The thing is, the only way you will likley experience any of them, is after LONG TERM, PROLONGED use. Meaning, you would likely have to smoke 5+ times a day. Every day...
It means your body got used to having it.

The thing is, tinnitus should not be a symptom related to cannabis.
It honestly is unrelated.

I know it seems like that is not true, but I assure you. It is not a withdrawl symtom.

Have you explored any other ideas?

It is possible something happened from coughing so hard.

A lot of people have temporary buzzing, or ringing, after coughing vigorously.

It would be in your best interest to see a doctor. Bring up the cannabis use, but don't push your doctor to think it is a sympom of withdrawl. It may slow down the diagnostics.

I would like to know if a single hit or "toke" of marijuana can worsen tinnitus permanently I had not a single "toke" since 2011 since that "toke" two weeks ago...

I have traumatic tinnitus and weed makes it way louder, and it's not just me being high; I'm a seasoned veteran 30-year pothead who does NOT want to quit but I am going to blow my head clean off my neck with a 12-gauge if this screeching doesn't stop.

It's really unhelpful to walk into a torture chamber and tell everyone to celebrate our suffering because it's Nature. I may never experience silence again, never sleep in peace again, never enjoy music or film (HUGE part of my life) ever again, no silence when stargazing, nor during intimacy, not when I listen for my child's heartbeat, unable to hear approaching objects and people, unable to tune my instruments nor write music without screeeeeech, not a moment of freedom from scrrreeeeech until death... hooray? It's not "om," dewd, it's damage. It's not even a "tone," it's screeeeeech; the kind of sound animals use to terrify other animals. It is really unhelpful to tell us all that our torture is really wonderful, if only we weren't so brainwashed by science and believed in ancient superstitions.

Ah man, you're likely never going to read this, but that was the best retort I've read in a long while. It's a shockingly accurate insight into the affliction we all suffer with. It seems as though the people with mild to non-existent "it comes and goes" tinnitus truly don't understand the grief it can induce. We suffer, unbeknownst to 99% of the public, in nothing like silence. Just adding my own two cents, I feel sorry for the people that DO truly empathise, because I feel ashamed for what I've become as a result of this (short-tempered, exhausted). I have truly GOOD days - thanks to some amazing people in my life, but if something were to be pulled from under me I'd destabilise greatly. It's given me thick skin, and I'm not going out without a fight. I'm going to fight for my life and try to do the utmost to keep the people that I love in it. I still want my independence, house, friends and hell - even some loving company if it's not too much to ask for. I'm hoping to leave a legacy of somebody who didn't have an easy life, but had a life and tried the best I could in the only ways I now how.
