Marijuana Effects on Lamictal

I am a 61 year old male diagnosed with bipolar II 10 years ago and since then have taken 200 mg's lamotrigine twice daily. I also smoke weed and like to drink a beer. moderation is the key and works for me. I drink one nice craft beer a day and generally take between 4-7 good tokes off good medical grade marijuana. I don't smoke every day. Once in awhile I get a wicked migraine headache I attribute to the interactions, of which I take prescription sumatriptan for my migraines. Oh, the things we do to survive in this crazy world!

Experience comes at any age, and although 16 there is much merit in what is written. Please do not denigrate the young for their age. One never knows where wisdom may come from, and in this case, the observations are valid.

Its a side effect of Lamictal, i forgot to take it one morning and when i got out of the car i couldnt walk and the same almost happened

I'm 29, been taking lamotrigine for about 3 months now, I drink a lot and smoke a lot and am on benzos, antidepressants and antiretroviral drugs. I'm totally aware that mixing all these things are dangerous but I've been this way for 10 years and my doctors know about my alcoholism/substance abuse issues. Smoking weed has had no negative effects for me. I would say try to avoid binge drinking on lamotrigine but if you don't usually have bad anxiety when smoking weed before you started taking lamotrigine then you should be fine.

I have been on Lamictal for over 2-years and I do drink and smoke. Not once have I ever felt the things you all are describing.

Hi. I burn various types of weed. Bud and oil. All bought on the street. I take lamictal 100 mg 2x per day. If I miss my pills I seize. Went 2.5 yrs seizure free until last Sunday. Dr wants to bump me to 200 mg at night and 100 mg during the day. His reaction was to bump, not many questions. I love burning. For 7 yrs I burned and took meds (keppra and lamictal) just lamictal now. I wanna keep burning. I like it alot. Can't identify any side effects yet. I haven't yet but will research the type of med maijuana you get in NY for seizures. Does it get u high or is it just the part of weed that helps but doesn't get you high? I burn often but haven't educated myself about weed and thc etc. I'd love to get it from the State of NY if it gets me high. Thanks folks!

I smoke daily. At least a gram or more. I am on 150mg of lamictal and 1mg of Xanax. There has only been good side effects while smoking weed. I hate taking pills. Especially addict ones. So I would rather smoke a bowl to calm myself down instead to knocking myself out. Xanax=tiredness. Weed=a calm mommy that can play and spend time with my son 9 my nephews 10-9 and my nieces 7-5-1 without feeling exhausted. So it is a plus from me.

I had this same experience. I'm taking 75mg of Lamictal and smoked for the first time in 10 years. It was horrible. Trying to sleep (eyes closed), lights, music that wasn't playing, all noises louder than they actually were, and intense dizziness. It was like being trapped in the Alice in Wonderland from hell.

Hey I was reading this blog and I came across your post. It was very similar to mine and I just felt like I had to comment . Last night I drank a four loco well I'm alight weight i believe lamictal causes that after the four loco i ad a buzz then I did one hit of pot and just that one hit turned things I started off fine for the first five minutes. Then I started throwing up and I don't think for the next 3 hours I open my eyes it was like I was so weak I couldn't. It was like I was border line seizure but I never had one all the way just at the point where I felt like the things were slipping. So just to say I would never smoke pot with my medicine unless I missed 2 doses of it but also i don't think alcohol effects it that much besides enhancing dizziness and drozeness.

What I've learned with weed and bipolar meds is that I can't use weed to try to get my symptoms under control, but now that I'm stabilized on Lamictal and Prozac I can use weed for pain control purposes and it doesn't exacerbate my mental problems when I'm on meds...I'll drink sometimes too and never had any similar reactions as I've read on hear, I think some people are just more sensitive to intoxication

Same! Do the symptoms always go away for you? How long do you have them?

i have taken lamactil and weed the past few days and feel dizzy. will this go away?
