Wow meter test strips are soooo expensive!! I have to pay $83 a bottle for these things and they don't even last a month! I was wondering if there is any way to reuse these things? I wonder if you could rinse the old blood out of them as soon as you get done using them and set them out to dry? Or use rubbing alcohol to cleanse them as well? Maybe soap and water perhaps? Then how many times a person can do this without the results getting messed up? THis would be great if they can be recycled and used again. It sure would save me lots of money if this can be done! I have googled it and didn't get any response or information for doing this type of thing. I thought maybe others might have done it before and can share how they did it. Please post it if you are reading this and have successfully reused test strips for your meter and got an accurate reading from it. Oh, and how many times you can reuse the strip. Thanks!
Unfortunately, there is no way you can recycle your test strips, though it would be a grand idea if they could be! It would safe on waste from using them and be more cost-effective for the consumer. As of now, this is the way diabetic manufacturers of meters make their money. They give their meters away for practically nothing and charge high prices on the test strips for those meters. It is not fair but it is what they do. So do not attempt to clean the test strips, even if they seem to work after cleaning. The test strips will probably be inaccurate with their readings and prove ineffective anyway. Someday, we can only hope, there will be test strips or a device that will allow diabetics to check their blood sugar without the expense.
