OK, so here is everything I know and have been though:
Midcycle spotting is a major symptom of uterine polyps and fibroids. I had one removed about 2 years ago and that was one of the warning signs I was later told (although 6 GPs - yes that's 6!!! - failed to recognise it as such).
Painful periods (including the sweating and loss of bowel control) can be related to endometriosis. So can the mid cycle spotting.
Also these can all be related to hormonal imbalances. One theory is that the pill can actually cause both conditions (yes, despite that we keep getting told the Pill isn't harmful there is evidence to suggest otherwise). Too much oestrogen (due to natural hormones, the pill etc) can cause hormonal imbalances, polyps, fiboroids and endometriosis.
So go to your doctor. And ifyou have no luck try another, and another, and another. Realise that most GPs are average. They can recognise the flu because they see it often. Most are not experts in menstration or woman's health.

any time you have intercourse, you can get pregnant...that's why they make birth control. the "pull-out" method is NOT birth control. use condoms.
I have been dealing with this for about 5 years now. I was 35 at the time, and had been celibate for nearly 3 years. I went to the OB/GYN, who told me that there wasn't anything to worry about. My pap and exam were normal. Although I am no doctor, I do think that it may be hormonal or chemical. It seems that my spotting gets worse when I am stressed out, and completely disappears when I am in a romantic relationship.
I'm NOT currently trying to get pregnant (only been married 9 months). I have noticed ovulation bleeding once or twice in the past, but now it's a couple of days every month. I've read online that it's perfectly normal but why has it changed so suddenly? I don't have health insurance and really can't afford to go to a doctor. I guess my bleeding isn't any different than I've read about, but the fact that I haven't really had these problems in the past makes me wonder...why now? Is it just my body changing or is it something else?
Nice to hear that I am not the only one. I am 37 and have been off the pill for over 7 years, using condoms. From 32-34 years of age I was going to OB every 6 months for all STD and pap testing because something seemed off {also getting out of a bad marrage with a man that might have sex outside the marrage}. Everything came back normal each time. Then I had an abnormal pap at 34, HPV. I had surgery and normal paps since.
Now married once I turned 36 years old my husband and I are trying to have a baby. I believe we got preganet on our honeymoon but I was not watching for my period, I have always been regular 28-30day cycles, no cramps. Right after our honeymoon I went on a roller coaster (now know it was 36 days since my last period) and instantly had pain all day. Then next day I bleed and had large matter in with the blood, smelled too.
It happend again in April on my 35 day but this time no roller coaster was taking it easy all month.
Tonight is when I should be ovulating and my husband and I had sex, with a fair amount of blood. I just had a normal period on July 9-14 2010 right on schedule.
My body use to be normal cycles of 28 days like clock work but since we have been trying my body has gone haywire. I have had 21-37 day cycles. When I tell my OB's they alway say you are normal ( I have tried out 8 different OB's, sometimes a move and other times left because they should not be practicing on me). I had a thyroid test too and it was normal.
Guess we will see, sad that none of us can get medical help/answers....

Several of your posts sound like perhaps ovarian polyps. Ovulation bleeding shouldn't last more than a day. When it goes on and on for days, and is getting heavier and heavier, that's something to question. I had this same problem, and my doctor did an ultrasound and found polyps - which are tiny sacs of blood vessels basically. This was where all the extra bleeding was coming from - so my doc did a D&C and I got pregnant 3 months later! I'm having mid cycle bleeding again and thought it was ovulation bleeding, but it's lasted more than a day and I'm starting to worry that the polyps have come back (which isn't uncommon). Something to ask about...
This month, I had some blood on day of ovulation, never has happened before me and my fiance is trying for a baby. and I am just wondering if we may have finally did it, cause this is a first
I have always been pretty regular since i got off the pill 15 yrs ago and have had a by the book 28 day cycle with ovulation around day 16 and have always had pain with ovulation but here in the past 4 to 6 months i have started having bleeding, started as tinged mucus in the first months but has grown heavier each month and is bright red. i have been reading alot of the post on line saying mid-cycle bleeding with ovulation normal but is it normal to start our of the blue??
Same here, folks. I have heavy ovulation/mid-cycle bleeding. I'm 21, a virgin, never been on birth control, and my periods are always on around the 20th of every month. 14 days after, i bleed like its my period all over again. The heavy bleeding only lasts for a day or so (I have to use a tampon for a couple hours), but spotting last 3-5. I suppose since there is a consistent pattern that its relatively normal and I must just be one of those rare "10% of women who experience heavy ovulation bleeding."
I guess no one has found an answer to this issue, but I'll keep looking. I would like to have children some day, and I hope that nothing is wrong. In my family, you only see the OBGYN right before you get married. I'm not even engaged. Not sure what to do... if anyone has found out ANYTHING at all, please let me know. Good luck to all of you.

I'm 31 years old. Been trying for #4 for over a year. Had a miss in November and another in March. From march to may I bled every few days and had all pms pregnancy signs. Well turns out all that bleeding was a hormonal imbalance caused by fetal tissue left over from miss in March. I never even knew I was prego till may when my doctor did a biopsy to figure out why edometrial lining was so thick. They thought I had cancer. I am cancer free but have cysts anf fibroids that will prevent pregnancy because there is no place to implant. That's why the two miss. I hope this helps someone I wish I had known about these issuesbefore. FYI last vag us showed thick lining again and I had mid cycle bleeding with ovulation and sex. I have to take meds every month now to completly clear my uterus.
i as all of you are having similar issues. My story is that I have had midcylce bleeding for as long as I can remember. I am now 33 yo. I saw an obgyn about it a few years back and an acupuncturist for a year. I had all my hormone and thyroid labs checked and everything was normal (first round of hormone labs showed slightly low estrogen but 2nd time were normal). I checked my basal temp for 8 months which was at times erratic...ran low for the most part but did show ovulation and progesterone rise most months. The bleeding got so bad that I at one point bled for a straight month. I had 2 ultrasounds which showed everything was fine. They really couldnt give me any answers but to go on birth control. I went on bc for almost a year. I got off that in August (whole other story there) and the midcycle bleeding started again. Same as many..right before ovulation and heavier with intercourse. Has anyone received any insite on how to decrease the bleeding or if it affects ability to become pregnant?
As I understand it women can fire "blanks" as someone put it. I had ivf a couple of times and on one cycle I had an egg extracted that was empty. My cycles were always random. IVF cycle two worked, then I miscarried at 19.5 weeks naturally, no D&C required. Since then I had 4 cycles which were long bleeds and short cycles, averagin 10 days intially. I've been having acupuncture and am now much more regular (6 months after m/c) but have had mid cycle bleeding (day13-14) although pale, bright red in tone. I am hoping this means that I am now ovulating naturally which I didn't do before the m/c. I'm just going to keep going as I am a bit longer. I think most people think it takes about 5 weeks to get pregnant. In actual fact average is over a year, we've been "trying" for nearly 5 years now. Patience is a virtue as they say, no matter how much it hurts or how frustrated you get. If ever you are worried see a doctor, if you think you're pregnant wait 3 weeks then do a test.
I am 34, and am "trying" to get preg. Not like my ex and i did anything to prevent it before and he had a kid before so... Now I have a new boyfriend, 24, army so no health issues there, yes i know, lucky me ;-) and we want a family. We have been having more sex more often then i have eveer had. I Just started my period again mid cycle for the first time. I had small bleeding 2 days ago and didnt think to much of it. But today I actually had clotting..tmi? sorry. So is this my period again, mid cycle? I should be goot till the 22ish. Could this be related to the sex or could this be age starting to show me when I ovulate? I guess I have the same questions as everyone else and hopes that someone can give us a bit of guidelines...I am new to his area and I have not found a doctor to call my own yet or I would look for answers there. Got, or bad :-( to know I am not alone
sounds like low progesterone to me, this is what I had, have your Dr. do a test, its easy and cheap.
I"m 33 years old, with active sexual life. i"ve always had regular period 28-27 but last month (for the first time) i had at first a light pinkish spotting but by the next days, it begun to get heavier ( just like in period) i went to the gynecologue, she didn't give it any importance, she did an echografy check up ( 10 days after the beeliding) she noticed nothing abnormal, no ovulation, nothing. she said that it may happen because of hormonal disorder bla bla bla...
what i want to know is, am i supposed to have the next period according to the normal one, or to the last bleeding. seeing the im in the 5th week since my last normal period.
