I recently had a Mirena inserted during a polypectomy and Hysteroscopy D&C - it wasn't for contraceptive purposes - but to stop excessive bleeding (which had actually come right 3 months before the op but I guess the Gynae wanted to err on the side of caution).
Today was Day 10 and I had been having cramps, bloating, acceleration from spotting to light bleeding, mood swings, feeling shattered, pressure on my bowels, etc etc. Apparently a lot of this is somewhat common.
But you know when something just doesn't feel right? Your body is just going 'no thanks'. Luckily I had a Dr at the A&E who listened to me. She and 2 nurses asked me why I wanted it removed so soon and suggested that perhaps I should wait for the symptoms to settle down. I told her the thing about it not feeling right and the increase and bleeding and she was like 'yep, I do understand that' (lovely lady). Anyway, as she was taking it out she said 'it's actually halfway out'. Oh man! No wonder I felt so ill!! If I'd left it, it could have gone adrift. I've known 3 or 4 people who have had it embedded in their uterus or had perforation occur - one nearly died from the infection. Others have said it's the best thing since sliced bread. I really think our bodies are all made differently.
I am in quite a lot of pain after having it removed but hopefully that will settle - I am so relieved it's out! I definitely felt relief and easing of pressure when it came out.
I would just urge that you read up first - look at the advantages and disadvantages. If you have one and something doesn't feel right go and get it checked out!
Thanks :)
