The recovery from the procedure wasn't as bad as some had. I had a lot of clotting. On the 2nd day after I had a clot so big I thougth i was going to have to go to the ER. LUckily I had a disposable catheter at home and I was able to pass it. My doc gave me lots of pain pills. So that helped.
I felt like the doctor just rushed to do it to get points towards a vacation in Hawaii. I finally went back to a different urologist about a month ago and they said my residual in my bladder was .8 liters. They did a ultrasound of my kidneys and saw that one was extremely swollen. Went to the ER and over a 2 hour period with a catheter, they emptied 1.4 L out of me. Now I have to self-catheter every 3-4 hours. Going in for a Urodynamic test on Monday (the procedure sounds fun!). If my bladder still has strength they may look at shaving away part of my prostate. Again, I feel my original urologist rushed to get the Urolift done without looking at all aspects.
Posting here in case someone thinking about urolift might read my experience. In 2019 I had six urolift clips (3 in each lobe). I suffered from these things for about three years. Just recently had things corrected and set right. I just had the HoLEP procedure at Vanderbilt by Dr Nicole Miller. These six clips with suture material had become inflamed and fibrotic according to Dr Miller. These had to be removed. Dr Miller had to cut these out.
Once cut out, the clips and all get pushed into the bladder and have to be removed with a grasper. This means more ins and outs. Plus Dr Miller had to “clean up” the fibrosis. So, Dr Miller explained to my wife that it would take me eleven weeks to totally heal. Thank God Dr Miller is so dedicated that she can correct what other urologist have totally mucked up. So, word to the wise, stay away from urolift. Doesn’t really matter that they call themselves a COE (center of excellence). Nothing excellent about doing the wrong procedure on a prostate too big for the procedure. HoLEP can treat any size prostate with a much much lower redo rate and minus the fibrosis. I spent 2 1/2 years suffering from urolift and I can’t believe the difference now. They tout urolift as the least invasive of the prostate procedures. Really? They need to come read the experiences on this forum. And I feel for all you guys that sold a bill of goods and suffered for it.
Forget their claims and get it right the first time. HoLEP is the new gold standard. I highly recommend Dr Miller at Vanderbilt. I’m Nate by the way. 67 years old.
