I had my surgery about 3 days ago and I been eating normally right now without no ill effects. I just ate chicken fried steak, breaded fish, mashed potatoes and chicken nuggets today along with drinking milk and orange juice and nothing wrong has happened so far. I'm pretty confident that the only thing that might happen is the occasional stomachache and diarrhea but that's it. No nausea and vomiting. I guess the reason why all these people have negative side effects of the post surgery is because their gallstones were detected early enough like mine. Also everyone is different.
Figured I would post a positive story! I too heard all the horror stories of having your gallbladder removed! I was sick since january and lost 35lbs in less than 2 months and until the Hida Scan came in (gb was under 1% functioning) so had no choice but to remove. Had gallbladder out 2/8/13 and this last week have tried salad with ranch dressing, small portion of steak, and even a slice of pizza with no problems! Everyone is different but don't let all the horror stories scare you! So happy that I had it taken out, feel much better!
I had my gall bladder out in November. Other than some pain and discomfort for a few days after the surgery, I have been fine and able to eat and drink anything with no side effects. I feel so much better for having it done. By the way, I am 73 years old.
Had my gallbladder removed 22 days ago. Surgery was quick, got discharged the same day. Really sore the first few days, and then gotten better. I've been eating healthier since then, but now I can eat anything I want if I choose to. Had no complications with it so far, so it was really successful for me.
Im a 26 year old male, i had my gallbladder removed about 8 days ago, had the surgery at 7pm and was out the hospital at 10am the next day. I had quite bad shoulder pains for the first 2 days but nothing half as bad as a gallbladder attack, i was up and about on my own on about the 3rd day, a little sore with the stitches but nothing half what i expected from having surgery. (Just remember you had a doctor routing around in you and chopping out an organ, you are going to be in pain after).
I am eating and drinking what i want now, pizzas, fried chicken, chips, kebabs and a few beers, all of the good stuff and i am totally fine. (I was a little more drunk than usual when drinking my first few beers but didnt have a drink for about 3 months, as the doctor told me it was one of the worse things for an attack)
From speaking to people on before my surgery (the ones with the bad stories), they dont really seem to be helping themselves, of course when you have fatty/spicy foods when you have not had then for 3 months you are going to feel sick and go to the toilet a lot more, some one with a gallbladder and no health problems would, you body isnt use to eating that kind of thing. Also with the drinking, if you have not been drunk in 3 months, its going to affect you a lot more than if you drank every week.
why didnt you talk to your doctor again?maybe there are more stones somewhere...you need tests done
Thank you so much for posting, I have been putting off having surgery for 2 years. I eat very healthily and am not planning on changing that, but keep hearing so many horror stories it makes me feel sick. I am stuck at a weight after having my 3rd little girl and hoping the gallbladder removal will make me less in pain, and feeling sick, so I can be more active. Hope your still doing well. xx
Thank you for posting this. I have been so worried about life after the surgery. I hope I am as blessed as you have been. Everyone always seems to write the negatives. I was worried about what could go wrong and then they all say how much weight they gained and now they can't get it off. I was so relieved to read your post. Thank you!!
I am a 54 year old Male that had one Gallstone attach which lead me to the Doctor for an ultrasound that detected Gallstones. I am in good physical condition I road Bicycle 100 miles a week for the last year so I had not symptoms. My Gallbladder wasn’t infected and I felt fine.
I don’t know what the big deal is. I went in on a Wednesday had the surgery that Thursday recovered the next two days and Discharged on that Sunday. I don’t know about this outpatient stuff in the US but I needed those two days to recover. I had it done in Japan and needed the two days of down time. I am not a proponent of socialized medicine the way the US is going about it but the Japanese system is geared for efficiency. The Hospitals make money by having patients so I knew I’d be in a little longer then the US. I went in on Wednesday that afternoon so they could control my intake. The next morning I was prepped for the procedure. I had to walk to the operating room, past the sharp instruments on one side and the smiling nurses on the other. I was told to hop up on the table and the nice Anesthesiologiststuck a needled in a vein on my hand. I was told to count to 10, me being nervous started out too fast so they said slower so I got to 11, 12 and then zzzzzzzzz. Next thing I know they wake me up and it’s over and I was feeling like they did something down there but I wasn’t in pain. They wheel me into recovery so they can monitor my breathing and pulse but I was amazed how I didn’t feel sick or I didn’t have that much pain at all.
I have watched both my wife and daughter throw up to the point of dry heaves and reeling in pain having to use the same muscles they cut and I was fine. I spent the rest of that afternoon in recovery and once my Heart rate was above the 65 bpm range I was moved into my room. I still had the pre-op catheter so I still had a little discomfort (Men you know what I mean). Other than that, I was fine.
The next day they made me walk the hall with my catheter bad and IV so I could prove I could make it to any restroom in the place. I passed with flying colors. Now I have the catheter removed (A feeling no man should have to feel but Thank god ). Next hurdle was I had to eat all my lunch in order to have my IV removed. That was easy since they deprived me food for a day and a half. All the things holding me down were gone. Next was getting out of bed, rolling to one side wasn’t as bad as it seems but I was afraid to use my stomach muscles in fear of tearing something but I got up fine. Wife and I walked down stairs first because I wanted to push myself to see if I could do it and I was fine. I was a little sore around the wound area but nothing to get pain relievers for .
I am going to say this as for nurses I think all of them have a sadistic streak in them when it comes to tape either that or they had a sale on the stuff. I lost more hair the time I was there and in the worst areas too. Back to my recovery. So I woke up early Saturday morning and I walked up and down stairs and again and again. I took a rest from time to time but I felt pretty good for just having surgery. I spent that night in the hospital and that morning I was discharged and back to work on Monday.
After reading all the Blogs of everybody that had issues and long recovery time I was thinking it was going to be bad. I feel fine and consider it no big deal .
