Hello all. I'm 35 and pretty fit and slim, however for the last week or so when I've moved even slightly like moving my arm to pick up the TV remote etc my heart starts beating really hard and quite rapidly, then after a few seconds or so it goes back to normal. There's no build up or slowing down of the heart rate, it just jumps from one rate to another. I'm starting to get quite light headed when it does it too.
I've been to the hospital where they did a short ECG on me, they took blood to test my thyroids etc and took and x-ray of my chest too, and they all came back clear. The doctor did however hear it happen when she had her stethoscope on my chest. They basically sent me to my GP and said I'd probably need to wear a monitor for 24 hours, as it doesn't happen when I'm laying still getting the ECG.
I went to the GP on Friday and managed to get in with the surgeries cardio specialist, and I've got to say he came across as knowing his stuff. He got me to have another 3 ECG's although they were all quick, and I didn't get the palpitations whilst they were being taken, typically, and again they were clear, although he had his hands on my pulse when I got a palpitation and he felt it before I did..I'm just glad he did as other than that you'd think I'm making it up!
He did tell me NOT to exercise anymore until we know what it is. I'm not anxious about anything and pretty chilled out, and he agreed too.
I'm getting these around 20-50 times per day now, and typically they only last for seconds but when they do I can feel the pulse all over me it's that strong, it's like I've just ran a short distance and stopped.
Can anyone suggest what it might be?
I did go on a bike ride last week before these started and I really pushed myself as hard as I could for 38 minutes, do you think this could be the cause? I mentioned it to all the doctors and nurses but none of the paid much attention to the fact.
Any help and suggestions will be massively appreciated. Carl
