my menses is a week late

 i was married on aprl 8th. We participate in sex almost daily. now  my menses is a week late. i doubt im pregnant now. but we wish not to have a child till a year. what to do now??? how to avoid pregnancy, while having sex. is using condoms the only way ?? r something else??? please please help.. because i cant have this tension every month till a year..
