Hello. I have been reading these posts but no one seems to have the same issues I have. I am 24 and have never taken birth control. I have been attempting to get pregnant for a year. My periods have always been short but usually they last 3 days. Lately my periods have either been a day long or they have been for one day then It will stop and then I will start again a day later. After the period is done I will have some brown discharge maybe a day later. I asked my OB about it and he said I am to young to check fertility and that I should just monitor my periods an if they get irregular to let him know. I am concerned. Any ideas?

I am 38 with 2 children and have noticed my period slowly decreasing from 5 days down to 1 day over many years
I just had a scare when it didn't arrive at all and went to the doc
they confirmed what I was afraid of that I was entering perimenopause early due to low ovarian reserve
even with assistance it will be hard to conceive again
we don't want to go down the ivf road as we already have 2 beautiful healthy girls so will try naturally for a year and then that will be it
I've read a lot about menopause recently and have started a new healthy diet and started to lose weight and wow this month 2.5 day period - that's why I was looking up 1 day periods in case anyone had an experience of this
I would urge anyone in this situation who wants kids not to put off getting medical help asap
look up symptoms of early or perimenopause - you may find explanations for other health issues like tiredness spots allergic sensitivity increase etc
if you are young with low ovarian reserve and not ready for a family going on the pill can help save your eggs for later (we lose around 100 a month) or you can have your own eggs frozen for use later
hope this helps :0)
this is the worst case scenario - the causes can also be pcos polycystic ovarian syndrome or ovarian failure which can be treated with hormones to kick start your ovulation or ivf with your own eggs

A bit more info...
I was on the pill for a few years and my periods went from 5 day to 3 day
when I stopped the pill they stayed 3 day - I thought they'd go back to 5 but didn't
next stage was intermittent 3 day period - so normal day 1 then nothing then half a day then nothing then maybe a spot or 2 later
at this stage I fell pregnant naturally with my second daughter
gradually this decreased down to 1 day
my family doc had a 'that's life' attitude about it but sent me for tests
full blood tests checked thyroid and diabetes and fats in blood (relevant for pcos) and all hormone levels and an ultrasound checked for lumpy ovaries of pcos and they counted the number of eggs developing
the results ruled out pcos and suggested early menopause
I got a referral to a obstratrician specializing in fertility
he ordered another blood test to check ovarian reserve (the eggs in storage release a small amount of traceable chemical) and mine was very low confirming the diagnosis of early menopause
the reason for the intermittent periods is not enough hormones in system to finish the bleed - don't worry tho any blood that doesn't make it out just gets reabsorbed
if you are in any doubt these tests will clear up where you are at
if your doctor isn't helpful - go to another one - when researching early menopause online I've read some sad stories from young women who went into menopause in their 20s before having a family
I'd probably have a 3rd child now if I hadn't put off doing something sooner - if you sort it early you may just need ovulation booster tablets
I wish you all the best

Hi,
I'm 25, never been on birth control also, and also trying to conceive for about a year now with no luck. My periods last 1and a half some times two days and some brown discharge on the evenin of the third day which is very, very light. Just read the last two replys an got a little scared to learn that u can go into pre menopause as early as in ur 20's. I'm goin to a different doc to get checked out cause I really want to hav a baby, I think u should to and if that doc don't help try another, or someone who specialises in fertility treatment. Hope u get pregnant soon and wish I could also.

hi..I was reading your story and it sounds just like mine in some ways. i was going through a lot of pain this month a lot of cramp and dizziness. on the 23 of jan i went to the doctor and did a blood test and it came out negative.my period was to suppose to come on the 27th of this month and it came a day after. on the 28 my period came and it lasted one day it wasn't so heavy at all. and then on the second day it was brown...that was very weird to me because normally i have my period for one 3 days and its always regular. the thing is that i had unprotected sex almost the whole month and i don't know if now i should go back to the doctor and do another blood test or i should wait 2 more weeks to do a home test...what should i do??? cuz i've been feeling sleepy i crave for food more...

Hiya im 33 years old and im having the same problem as you, periods only lasting one day, but had my thyriod checked out for problems and i have an overactive thyriod condition, check your thyroid first to see if you have that problem, but there is an herbal drug called Don Quai which will help your menstration flow better its a blood thinner and helps with feritility problems, making your period flow longer. holland and barrat for Don Quai.

Its very relieving to read this article today, as the reason of come here today was for looking for same answers. I'm 31 now, with no kids and I am not taking any method of contraceptive. The thing is, I always had 4-5 days menstrual period. For some reason I dnt kno it just went down to 1 to 1-1/2 day. It isn't heavy either. its very lighter. On the first day its very lighther colour and very weak blood like u can stay with pad all day not even considering to change. on the second day it just goes lesser, dry nd dark. I have been on this situation for 2 years now I'm just wondering if it is not a perimenopause, i dnt. I went to see my gp nd she told me that it is normal, as long a have my period every month i have nothing to worry abt. The thing is in the last 2 months from january the first day is getting even weaker and ligther.

Hi i am 25 years old and currently 4 months pregnant, even i used to have periods which lasted 1 and half day and every passing month it seemed to me as if they are getting shorter and reduced which scared me, but most of the time my periods were pretty regular. I had my first period when i was just 12 and half year old, earlier my periods lasted 4-5 days, but by the time i reached 24 there was a lot of change.... i felt as if was hitting menopause   :-| lol. But now that i am pregnant i feel fine, every body is different just believe it and follow your body. I really don't know how it would have been if i waited few more years to get pregnant phew relieved.............
