I am 27 years old. (female) For years i had recurrent sore throats. lost my voice and massive tonsil stones or whatever those huge stinky white balls are. Finally I was at work one day when i nearly passed out from a terribly high fever accompanied by a sore throat. I was rushed to the hospital only to be diagnosed with tonsillitis. it shocked me that a fever almost killed me. i was unaware of the danger was in because i ignored the problem for so long...i made work an excuse as to why i couldn't get surgery. i didn't have any sick leave and was not even ready to sacrifice time off with no paycheck. anywhoooo. I went through constant infections for several months after that. And finally..i gave in. my right tonsil was literally sitting in my throat with a huge abscess looking lump on it as well as my left tonsil which was also enlarged. i read all these horror stories online which drove me to reschedule twice because i was too busy reading horror and nothing positive. let this be known. i was terrified reading all this scary bull. stop reading all this scary c**p and focus on your own self recovery. everyone heals differently . i factored in my age..my weight..my high blood pressure...my pcos....all because of the internet. i got to the hospital early in the morning..they made me get butt naked..so make sure you shower..lol. they put an iv in you then the anesthesiologist comes to visit.you and get your medical history. they prep you..send u to the or and you fall asleep without even knowing it. Then you wake up in the recovery room where they ask you how much pain your in and give you med. watch your heart rate..blood pressure and check your temp. then give you popsicles ice chips water..explain some things to you and tells you to come back to see your ent in a week. i got a ride home..was kind of nauseous but didn't throw up. just laid down. took my codeine and tylenol with a liquid antibiotic and it managed the pain fairly well. i ate apple sauce and sipped on chicken broth. the left side is no longer swollen..but the right side is still massively swollen looking..it doesn't hurt as much as i read these horror stories. just think of it as a really bad sore throat. im only on night two and im slowing down on pain meds as much. ill write more two days from now to let you all know how good or bad it is. i pray to God..it goes well. (God made all possible for me) be back lataz...lol
So cheers to the next day!! One side is larger than the other and is covered in white/yellowish stuff which hurts like heck whenever I swallow. It has been manageable though. I can speak a little better but I want to save my voice until there is no pain at all. I had a little earache earlier but nothing the tylenol/codeine didn't take care of. Now it's gone. After reading about all these monstrous earaches, I believed that it would get worst so I had a panic attack, only to find out that the pain medicine made it vanish. Whoo hoo!! Just wondering why my left side is not swollen, but my right side is huge covered in this stuff. Is it because it was the bigger tonsil?? My doctor didn't say anything about it, so I wont worry about it as much. Just wait a few more days and hopefully it goes down and away. Still eating soup and drinking water and green tea. I added yogurt into my foods to tolerate today. I will add some mashed potatoes if im feeling better tomorrow. I have yet to eat meat...Also, I woke up with mucous in my throat, I managed to spit some of it out though..

So today is 04/11/2012 and I have to admit, I feel great. It's minimal pain when I swallow. Like a minor sore throat and i was eating solids as long as I chewed them down to almost nothing. It stung a bit because something spicy got in it. It hurt for a while but I believe all is going well. I haven't taken any pain medication at all today and today is day 6 or 7. I'm feeling okay. Not as bad at all. I am able to speak but not like I want. My tongue touches the back of my throat when i speak because I know I have a scar..LOL. so I sound muffled. I ate ice cream all this morning and i have to admit, ice cream feels soooo good. I mean it is so soothing. It makes me want to keep eating it for the soothing..LOL. ill be back to tell you guys more if anything weird pops up but all in all. It's not as bad as everyone made it out to be. But some do heal differently. And i thank God He made this easy for me. ;-)
