I am a 15 year old girl having surgery to remove a large nasal polyp on October 6. I have heard some horror stories about endoscopic surgery, but I don't know if I'm getting that or the simpler polypectomy. My ENT said that the operation takes 1 hour 30 minutes, and that it is an outpatient procedure with a high success rate. Does anyone know which kind of surgery I may be having based on this information? I think the polyp is in my right sinus, but I lost the paper and don't know for sure. Thanks!
Hey stacey hope you are ok. I had nasal surgery polyps removal and balloon sinuplasty, I also had tubes in my ears on Oct 2, 2012. Surgery ok. recovery (still ongoing) was really rough, sinus headaches and pain that I have never had felt in the past. I am 50 and have had years of chronic issues, that might explain the recovery being slow. The ENT thinks another week I should be feeling well. So that puts me at 2wks recovery.
It is now 2 days after your scheduled surgery my 2-5th day was horrible. Hope your surgery recovery went smoother.
My recovery has been going surprisingly well! The hardest part so far was waking up from the anesthesia. I fought that stuff so hard since I HATED being in that weird limbo state between consciousness and unconcisousness. I came home after my surgery on Saturday afternoon and fell asleep for several hours. I woke up feeling pretty well, took some pain meds, and had a small dinner. I watched some TV, then fell back asleep for the night, with my mom waking me up every 4 hours for some more pain meds. Sunday morning brought some bleeding, and I had (and still have) the slightly uncomfortable pressure of the splints up my nose, but other than that, I was feeling perfectly fine. I relaxed all day, which was very nice. Today, I skipped school to recover some more. I feel fine right now aside from those annoying splints. As long as I take the pain meds every 4-6 hours, I am able to live life as normal. I am so happy that I've recovered so well, considering my doctor said that on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the worst case of polyps possible, my case was a 10! I'm headed back to school tomorrow, just no gym class for a week. Thanks for sharing your experience, and I hope this post finds you feeling a lot better!
