I've had this happen to me on and off for over 20 years. And I finally figured it out. My anxiety/stress level triggers a psoriasis-like rash on my face/neck/ eyes -- swelling, red, itchy, burning. Other factors make it worse like salty foods and non-natural moisturizers. But, it definitely begins with anxiety/stress. It seems skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, athlete's foot, contact dermatitis can lay low -- until something triggers it like a stressful situation -- real or imagined. Two lotions help: Betamethasone Dipropionate and Desonide cream. However, if it sticks around for awhile (weeks or months) it's best to get a steroid shot or at least Methy-PREDnisolone 4mg -- that really wipes it out! It's a miracle drug for this condition! Benedryl and other allergy meds help but if you take it for a while or too much - it could exacerbate the problem and make you more irritable and anxious. In extreme cases, get the steroid shot and methy-prednisolone.

I have only recently developed a rash that flares up when Im stressed, I feel a heat inside my head and chest when it gets worse. Ive had to leave work several times to calm myself down as the red dots get itchier and its hard to think properly when you feel so overheated and itchy. Its been going on for a few months and I was on a course of steroid pills which helps but now its coming back!

Yes Betablockers are the answer. I'm 34 I got the rash blotches since my early 20's. I started beta blockers my late 20's and very very rarely is it able to break past the beta blocker. Not at my wedding, not with minor or even pretty major anxiety. It's caused from anxiety which brings your blood pressure up some anyway so it doesn't hurt to slow it just a little. My particular brand is propranolol and its been months since it's appeared. Take it as soon as you start to feel a bit anxious. Sometimes knowing you have them almost causes a calming effect that stops it. Good Luck -

vitamin B6 is something I take on days I know I'm going to be dealing with something stressful, or going to a party or social gathering, and it works 90% of the time, and it's natural. I went 5 years dealing with giant red patches on my chest, and with enough research I tried this, and it worked!!!

I think my fourteen year old daughter has this. The doctor does not know what it is, but she just started her period for the first time and also highschool, the same week that these blotches broke out. They are mainly on her neck, but some on face, and some on lower extremeties. They itch as they are coming on. The itch goes away, but the spots stay. Most of them look like irregular little hickies. she also has a thin "line" of it. Do you others with this "nervous rash" describe it as looking like small, irregular hickey like rashes, or is does it look different?
thanks!

I get the stress rash on my lower legs and came here hoping for advice but i guess there's no cure. the only relief i've found is rinsing the area with VERY hot water, as hot as you can stand. when you start it feels like the most wonderfull scratching session without the risk of skin damage. but it is only temporary. a handheld shower head works perfect!

I've struggled immensely from this same problem and I found the answer a couple years ago and have been a new person ever since. It's totally changed my life, and that answer was FOOD ALLERGIES! I started eating gluten free an my life changed forever and I haven't touched wheat in over a year and a half... this is coming from a guy that used to slam beers and pizza in college like it was going out of style. I don't want to waste anymore time writing about my experience, but please, do yourself a favor and stop listening to doctors about immune problems (because they dont know sh*t!) and try to eliminate common food allergies from your diet and see what happens. These food sensitivities I have usually present themselves during stressful situatioins when your body releases hormones that cause degranulatlion of mast cells which are full of histamine if you've been eating foods you're sensitive to, same goes with booze... booze releases histamine from mast cells and exacerbates this allergic effect in the body. I'm 100% positive im a celiac because I have a laundry list of intense symptoms that have vanished after I've made these changes and that's all I'll say about that, but could write for days. I really hope you guys find it in yourself to make this change, I owe my life to it. An interesting fact... 80% of celiacs are undiagnosed. You know why? well, docs are no smarter than you, which means they are pretty stupid, and doctors aren't verse in celiac disease. there's not a lot of money in treating it, and it's super hard to get a confirmed diagnosis (like most auto immune diseases) and the symptoms are common across many diseases in this field. But the biggest problem is that docs usually don't have a clue that celiacs present many symptoms outside of the traditional gut symptoms... it's pretty impressive, really, how very little docs know about this.
