This is a bit embarrassing to mention but does anyone have any problems with nighttime hypoglycemia that results in excessive salivation. Sometimes I wake up and find that I have drooled all over the pillow and it apalls me to even see that and feel the coldness and wetness of the drool on my cheek. I want to be able to stop this thing from happening anymore. I hate to go through this and I know it is because of my hypos. Maybe if I can prevent myself from having hypoglycemia during the night, I can prevent the salivation from occuring as well. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Has anyone else have this happen to you? I have a boyfriend and I have to take the pillowcase off my pillow during the night so he doesn't see the drool on it. It is incredibly embarrassing and he is asking questions as to why my pillowcase is always missing when we get up in the morning. I neeeeed help! :
I am sorry to hear about your nighttime situation. I think if you can control your nocturnal hypoglycemia, the salivation would stop as well. You should make sure you are eating your carbohydrates at night with a protein to help the carb absorb slowly into your system. This may prevent your blood sugars from crashing. You may also want to avoid any exercising after 7 o'clock at night. Are you experiencing any other hypoglycemic episodes during the day at all? If you take insulin at night, you may want to switch it to a time during the day like mid-morning. This will be better since you will be obviously awake plus you consume carbs during the day. At night, you don't. I hope these suggestions help you out and put an end to your nightly hypos.
