THANK YOU all for posting. It gave me the strength to take the plunge and get my bunion surgery. My left foot has been bothering me for so long until this summer I was limping at times and my parents told me to get it done. Of course I have read so many horror stories, but seeing this post was great. I am 4 days in, surgery was 10-3, and I feel great. My foot does seem to hurt if i have it down, but I mainly just keep it elevated at all times. I haven't had to take all the meds becuase the paim is not that bad. I am still just waiting for it to hit me, but I secretly hope this is all that will happen.
I am having a great experience. And I hope others see these posts instead of the thousands of horrific ones.

I'm just 12 hours post op including a hammer toe repair with a moderately severe bunion. I'm not feeling any pain and following the same protocol as you, including elevating the foot/leg above my heart with a foam wedge. The nurse told me to take the Ibuprofen with Codeine at 3:30 to avoid severe pain which I didn't comply with. So far, so good. Oh, and I'm 65 and had a high activity level your age as well, including long distance running. Thanks for posting!

My physician said I've a half hour on a half hour off until I see him 7 days post op. Check with your doc, though.

I just had surgery yesterday and same here...I did not get sick after surgery as I had feared..my foot and leg just numb. Very hard getting around in crutches so I just ordered a knee scooter but no pain...I have not taken any pain killers just a numb foot..I had no issues sleeping. I was a bit worried also that is why I googled no pain after bunion surgery so glad I am not the only one.

Hi, my name is Sonia, sweetlana161854 your story is so similar to mine. Since i was 15 i notice these bunions. Now at 38 decided to get one foit operated since it was worse then the other and just like you (big toe starting to overlap others). DR sais that he had to brake my big toe and brake a bone in my foit since in was cruket and put two screws and grind my bunion. So there i am geting the surgery done and they put me to sleep. I wake up and i was all froze so no pain at all. Surgery was at 10:20am and i woke up after at 12:45 pm. I left hospital at 1:30pm. No pain cause i was froze. It staid froze for 24 hours. I was taking 2 regular tylanol every 4hours anyways cause didn't know when i would feel the pain and inwas prescribed celecobix 1 a day for five days. That for pain and sweeling. That one they said absolutly take it and finish them. Then i also had some hydromorphone wich i hardly needed. The next day when it unfroze i was like "ok is this the pain in will have cause it is absolutly barebul" it was a 3/10. That night it got to 6/10 witch was barebull to. Its not as bad as they all say. I took hydromorphone not because i hurted so mutch but to have a good night sleep. Took some only 3 nights and then the 4 th day wasn't taking any med at all. But i was not alound to walk on it. I am in a cast for 1 month and no walking on it for 1 month. I still manage start my laudry, take a bath (keep foot up on side of bathtub) make myself a easy breakfast. But as soin i sit i put ice. I put ice about 4-5 times a day. Not at 9 day. Git out yesterday it felt good. Brought a pillow with me so were i went i kept my leg up. So for me it really wasn't as bad as they say. I no i have a really high tolleration. Going in 2 days to change my cast. Cant't wait to see what it looks like since i can't see with the cast.

I appreciate the information regarding the ice machine. I was fortunate to be able to borrow an ice machine from a friend. Specifically, how long do you leave the ice on and how long do you leave it off?
Thank you for your time,
MK
