I have no tear ducts but in the 1980s had LJ tubes fitted, small glass tubes places from corner of each eye through a drilled hole into back of nose/throat. They were a nightmare so after a few years I got drunk and pulled them out... Unexpectedly the openings left behind did not grow over so the problem is solved :)
Hello, I was born in 2001 and i was born without tear ducts. I'm only 16 so I don't know the medical science behind it I actually found your question because I was curious about the science behind the procedure myself. Anyways when I was 1 I underwent surgery and from what my moms told me the doctors basically made me substitute tear ducts that are very similar and almost completely keep my eyes from watering non stop. Of course they do still leak every now and then for no reason, and when I run, there's the slightest bit of wind, I lay down, I turn my head too fast, do my eye makeup and a few other things I can't think of right now but it's so much better than what you're going through right now. I definitely recommend asking your doctor about it and I don't know any details and I'm sorry if everything I wrote was completely useless to you I didn't want to waste your time. I wish you the best of luck.

Hey it's the same person and it's only been a few minutes because I looked into everything and asked my mom about it too. I had my tear ducts probed because they were too narrow that tends to be the problem with many kids, 1/3 of infants are affected with this problem either by having narrow ducts or tissue blocking them. Almost kids outgrow it others get treated for it. I'd ask your doctor about it
I'm 23 with no tear ducts and I have a Jones tube. My last surgery was when I was 5... fast forward to age 21... I had my daughter and the pushing force caused irration to my tube... so got sent to a doctor. Apparently your supposed to get it looked at every 6-12 months! Not a single person told me this. Most of the time they can readjust I'm the office. Or other times they scrap it and re do it... I was horrified to hear this as I havnt seen my doctor since ideas 7
I am 56 and was born without tear ducts. My parents opted not to put tubes in. I have lived with red, watery, mucus filled eyes my whole life. I now have a viral infection in my left eye that is being treated with steroids. Vision loss is a constant concern. Doctors have diagnosed me with dry eyes, even though my eyes are constantly watery. I recently had an eye care professional tell me they think I have LADDS Syndrome.
I have the same issue as well! Its so annoying and everyones constantly asking me why I look like im crying! I went to an optometrist that specialised in this and the option was to have tubes inserted in my eye, we couldn't afford it so I've never had anything done. What are your ways of dealing with it?
Hi there I’m a thirty year old female born without either tear duct. When I was less than a year old the doctors went into my left eye and made an artificial tear duct out of access tissue I had. I didn’t have enough tissue in my my right eye to do This and still lack that tear duct. I wear contacts and have no issues in either eye other than the minor aggravation of constantly touching my eye, smearing my mascara or explaining to strangers why I’m “crying.”
As a side note this condition has always been told to my family and I that it is not a hereditary trait. My grandfather, my uncle, my father, my sister, myself, and my niece are all missing our tear ducts. Tell me that’s a coincidence......

I was born without tear ducts in my left eye I had 12 surgeries by the time I was 12 yrs and apparently the bones in the face/nose don't stop growing until you are 12 yrs and that is why all the other surgeries failed. On the 22nd January 1957 I had my 12th surgery it was a big event as I was the first child in the world to have this surgery many specialists were present at the time. I had an incesion from corner of the eye down the side of my nose and an artificial tear duct was placed where the duct should have been I was bandaged up for three weeks the day of the reveal was a very big deal with many specialists waiting to see if the surgery was a success the bandages were removed and the gauze in my nose removing it was horrendous every nerve in my face was alive then the syringe was inserted into the hole in my eyelid and saline was injected to see if the saline would drain through my nose or down the back of my throat. It was a success what a glorious moment I still don't have the top eyelid but I am so grateful for the chance to have led a normal life. My Dr was Grosvenor Burfett Williams bless his sole he would be in heaven now. I am 73yrs and all good. Bless you

No tears here and very dry eyes. If I'm ever arrested for murder, they will be saying - she's faking it, no tears.
