Hello! My grandfather has been diagnosed with oral cancer. He was first complaining about a nodule under his tongue when he was diagnosed. Everybody in the family is going crazy now, having appointments, check ups, everybody is suddenly interested in their health and are just throwing money around on private doctors with no specific cause apart from that grandfather got sick. The thing is that he has been smoking for 45 years, chewing tobacco and drinking. I am not that obsessed like the others but I would like to know how to search for lumps in my mouth. Thx!!!!

Hi there! You should understand your family members. Nobody actually thinks about their health until something like this happens. And you are right to ask for the info on self-examination. Here is what you should do: open your mouth as wide as possible, place hand outside the mouth under the chin, and then raise the tissue on the floor of the mouth with the index finger or use thumb from the other hand, feel for the lumps that seem firm and immovable and look for the cold sores and other abnormalities. If you notice anything unusual, call a doctor!!!!
