im 17 and i too get nose bleeds before my period. usually its not this bad, but i have one right now and i looked up how to stop a nose bleed and a website said to apply cold to your cheeks/nose and pinch your nose and it should stop and it seems to be working. but im glad im not the only one because whenever i ask my friends they say that they have never heard of this before. good luck ladies.
I'm 16 and I got my first nose bleed every today, out of only my right nostril. I did start birth control 2 months ago, but my period isnt due for over a week. Hm??
I thought I was the only one!
I'm 15 and since I was about 14 every month I get numerous nose bleeds throughout my period although some have been like a day before I get them.
It's so fustrating since I'm still at school I have to go out of classes to clear myself up which means I'm missing parts of lessons!
I finished my period yesterday and I still have a slowly bleeding nose.
Sometimes I get gushes of blood that last about 10 to 15 minutes but other times I just get what I called 'sticky blood' in my nose which clots then makes my nose sore and uncomfortable.
I'm fed up with it. I don't know if it's connected to the nose bleeds but I do know for a fact it's related to my periods as well.
I get really bad migraines which start off as a strong headache which then affects my left eye (giving me blind spots and floating bad areas in that eye).
I then feel funny as in faint/weak then I lose all feeling in my left arm and shoulder with light pins and needles. I have no sensory touch in that arm when this happens, I even tested once by putting my full hand wrapped around a large radiator pipe which was on full blast.
I had to eventutally let go because I'd probably damage my skin but I couldn't feel myself holding onto the pipe nevermind any pain it caused me, it's a horrible situation.
I also sometimes feel like my left hand is larger than normal when tis happens although it looks fine.
Then I get a overwhelming urge to be very badly sick, I allow myself to do this and I'm normally sick a good few times.
Next I go unbelievabley tired as if I can hardly stand so I go to my bed sleep straight away for at least 5 hours and wake up as if nothing has happened.
I hate it though, it also affects my schooling. I've been to the doctors about them which they prescribed Migraleve. I refuse to take either one of the two tablets because the only way to get rid of the migraine and fall asleep is to be sick but these tablets stop you being sick at all. I know this is connected to my period because my doctor said that if I ever wish to go on the pill etc I must tell the doctor to check my file because I can't get a certain type I have to get the 'more unusual pill'.
Sorry for such a long post, I need to know if all this is connected though! :'(

Hi,
Weird , the penny has literally just dropped for me!
I am 30 and have only started having nose bleeds in the last 3/4 years . I have had a bit of a hectic social life in this time and there has been lot of change ( new job, messy boyfriend split , 2 house moves , starting a new uni course etc) I attributed this to a busy lifestyle and maybe stress, however i have only just realised that this happens when I am due on my period.
It doesn't happen every month and is not heavy however it has caused a few difficult meetings at work. Having done a few google searches I believe it is due to the levels of estrogen in the body increasing ( or any hormonal change ) which in turn inflates the inner nose membranes. Therefor resulting in a nosebleed, this seems to be a credible explanation for me as it doesn't "flow" for very long.
Some sites have mentioned that there might ( and this is only a might) be other causes to do with reproductive health, in my case I don't think this is the answer, either way i am going to go to the Doctors to get myself checked out. Better safe than sorry I guess.
Anyway hope this helps.
Good luck

Hi Ladies!
I am not sure if anyone is still reading these postings, but I wanted to give many of you a heads up regarding endometriosis. I am 28 and have been having abnormal cramping since I was 13 (start of my period). Started having cramp-like pains around the age of 23 while not on my period, or even remotely close to it, and also nose bleeds! The pains had increased in frequency and intensity until I finally was diagnosed with endometriosis. I had surgery (after submitting to hormonal treatments which I do NOT recommend) and most of the pain went away. However, it is known to return if not properly removed by excision in ALL areas where it can be found (most surgeons don't find it all because they insist on looking only in the pelvic cavity). There are some specialists who will perform excision surgery, but they are hard to find, and many doctors will refuse surgical intervention as they believe only hormones are the answer.
Anyways, many women with endometriosis, such as myself, also experience heavy nose bleeds prior to starting our period. Mine is in my left nostril, and always starts a couple days prior to my period starting. I highly recommend that many of you seek out a diagnosis of endometriosis, though I do not suggest that all nose bleeds are symptoms of it.
Good luck to all of you, and do not be disheartened by your doctors..if they don't listen to you, get a new one (they are human too)!

WEIRD! I'm almost 18 and have been getting nosebleeds about 3-4 days before my period, usually out my right nostril only!! This hasn't been happening every month, but almost every month for about 5 months or so! I would love to know the reason behind this :O
My wife gets nosebleeds before her period as well (she's 23 now). I was doing some research and came across this site: ***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowed
Haven't actually read through the whole thing yet, but hopefully this helps

My right nostril just stopped bleeding, and I'm due for my period within a week. And I'm also 18. This has been happening nearly every cycle I've had. And I've only bled from my left a few times.
When I was younger (before puberty), I had quite a few nosebleeds, so I thought it was related somehow?
My only theory, and I've had this theory before I knew that this was so common, is that maybe our blood pressure goes up (perhaps drastically) before our cycles start? I usually have low blood pressure though, so I'm not too sure.

SAME THING HAPPENS TO ME. I'm 16 and i use to be on birth control for cysts but went off of it a year ago. my period stopped, then i recently got it. the days before it i must've gotten at least 7 bloody noses, one at night, only right nostril
i'm 18 too i usually get nosebleeds before my period but now my period has stopped and my nosebleeds are worse!!!!!!!!!!
i'm 13 and i've had to nosebleeds whilst im on my period, one at school which was the most humiliating thing of my life...
im off school now with a heavy nosebleed because of it and i was wondering if there is any way to stop them?

Oh my goodness, I thought it was just me. Strange isn't it! My nosebleeds are always around my period times and only ever out of the right nostril. They started right after I had a laperoscopy for suspected endometriosis - which I don't have. One has just stopped, I'm at work, and now I'm feeling a bit funny. Anyone else notice that when the bleed is fast that you can get on with things but when it is slow it throws you sideways for the rest of the day?

I already have a heavy period and I lost quite a bit of blood with my nose bleed
It's fair to say that this kind of thing starts when you are 15-18
Odd
But I am very relieved to find out that there are other women like me
I woke up and my nose was bleeding, but that's all
I didn't have any doctor visits, medical problems, etc...
So I still don't know why now?

I'm turning 16 in two months and I just started bleeding out of my left nostril 3 days ago (which just so happens to be the day before I got my period). This bleeding has been literally going on for three days (It's not serious, but when I put a tissue in my nostril, the tip is covered in blood). Great to know that I'm not alone in this voyage of womenhood. :-P
ok well i am 12 going to turn 13 in a few months and right now out of my left nostril i have a nose bleed and i just started my period today
Also i was wondering if u can lose to much blood when having a nose bleed and your period at the same time???
