this has happened to my daughter before as well with the dye being injected with a catheter and she gets yearly ultrasounds done as well. Her kidney has not caught up to the right one still. What does this mean is this a disorder? I live here in Northeast Ohio where my daughter and I will be joining the Kidney walk at the Great Lakes Science Center.
sorry i have mistakenly clicked on disagree
Dear my 2 years old Son's left kidney is small than the right kidney. he has reflux and his urine going back to kidney Please tell me is it dangerous or not? and what should i do ? we are very upset . . Doctors are saying for MCUG and DMSA Test . . and might be surgery... . please Let me know
my left kidney is only 40 mm about 1/3rd the size of the normal , my nephrologist said it is better not to consider tht kidney as it is of no use , i have slightly high blood pressure, i have not been prescribed any medication , but doctor said its fine , theres nothing to worry , just i need to get a creatine test done every 4 - 6 months
hi , l have one kidney my left one larger then my right, l had many tests done and everything is all good, l did a 24 hour collecting my urine and the function of kidneys work well, l asked the doctor about the size he said " we don't worry about the size as long as the kidneys are working well,,,, so all good
hope l helped out
That's not exactly right b/c my left kidney is smaller than my right...but like you said as long as one is working good it will compensate for the other.
I have one kidney that is larger than normal(left) and one kidney that is smaller than normal(right). I was born with an extra uriter on my right kidney and it wasn't attached to anything, so it was killing it. But my left kidney compensated for my right ones short comings. We didn't find this out until I was 13, so the fact that you are monitoring your son every year is fantastic. Of course it caused some problems and I had most of the same tests your son is probably having. I had the dye injected via catheter and it's no biggy. Just a little uncomfortable. I ended up needing surgery to reattach the uriter; that happened when I was 15. I'm now 21 and I have little to no problems. I just want to ease your mind that more than likely your son will be fine :) especially since you have been having doctors monitor him since birth.
I was born with this disorder, my left kidney does about 25% of the work, while my right does 75%. I am 21 years of age now and my nephrologist specifically told me that I could drink as much alcohol as a person with normal functioning kidneys. I get blacked out drunk 4 times a week and have had no side effects…..at least the liver works fine lol
Don't worry.....I have the same disease as you and im almost 13.....sometimes I feel it will fail but I don't know...we are kinda the same except my kidney is larger than the other....I worry too
Completely normal, do not obsess over this nonesense, even wikipedia says they are different sizes due to the area the liver requires to grow fully.
I only have 1 kidney, I was born with it and that is completely normal too!! around 1 in 20 people are born with only 1 and mine is larger than either of a usual persons kidneys which is normal as my one is basically a 2 in 1 package (in my eyes mine is the latest model in evolution because the body doesn't need 2 separate kidneys so the body is slowly developing with only 1 larger one over time) :p
my bladder is leaking all the time one of my kidneys are smalller than the other than the other, do you think thats my problem?
No this is not normal I have a smaller kidney my left but no matter left or right your kidney will not filter out properly and cause problems such as multipul uti my side hurts rather often because of my smaller kidney my doctor said it's not life thertning but I will be more pron to uti

Hello,
My father has high bp for many years and now he has his right kidney smaller than the left.
he has history of repeatative UTIs. But that is because of the prostrate.
Anyone had faced problem like this, can he be living normal life?
