You may have a filaria parasite or some other parasite.
I have the same cough, only happening at night, no other issues during the day, and it's been going on for about 3 weeks now. I talked to a few people, they are experiencing it too. I think it may be a side effect of the flu or the H1N1 vaccine, or just a peculiar bug. This would only apply to those people that all of a sudden started coughing not too long ago and are healthy otherwise. I was told by my friends that had the cough and no longer have it, that it will pass with time. Already my coughing is significantly less at night. Just annoying that it wakes me up, but I now keep water and a coughing drop on the side table so that I don't have to fuss too much.
I think it may be something to do with your ear. Sounds crazy but some kind of link between sinuses etc. I'm not a doctor but postnasal hasn't worked and recent it feels like my ears have a big part to play in the most serious of cases. I think I'm going to check it out tomorrow. Look up: Otitis Externa.
I am a 29 year old female and am experiencing the same thing. I find that taking 1500 mg of Apple Cider Vinegar pills at night time help to eliminate the coughing, and 750 mg helps in the morning as well to thin it out. Not a cure but a little bit of relief anyway...
Hey everyone
I havwe the same problem and i put it down to a combination of stress and anxiety and perhaps too much dairy food intake. I find that when im under pressure from college the build up of phlem gets worse, so try managing your stress as best you can, also exercise, plenty of water and lay off the dairy usually helps me.

I have been waking up with this cough on and off for around a month now. I went to see my local doctor and he said it could be because I have tossil stones. For those that don't know what tossils stone are they are irregularly shaped, whitish/yellow, foul-smelling globs of mucus and bacteria that get caught in the back of the throat. They form in the tonsil crypts which are simply small pockets or divots that appear in everyones tonsils. A symptom that you have tossil stone can be this cough occuring. If this is the case for you i would recommend mouthwashing everymorning and night after brushing your teeth and removing the tossil stones with a toothpick in your own time (be very careful). This is not an hygiene issue but is however just a case of sinus problems and is very common.
I have read other answer and am hoping this is the one that people have not looked into, however if you don't have tossils you will not have tossil stones because they have nowhere to develope.

I am experiencing the same kind of situations described here.
In the morning you can describe me as a healthy guy with good masculine body but at night you can’t imagine me in such a condition.
I don’t remember how it started but now it’s taking a toll on my daily routine. Due to coughing at night I am not having sufficient sleep which is disturbing me at my job.
I had that before 2 years, at that time I started some Ayurvedic remedies, after having the Ayurvedic medicines for at least 1.5 years it was completely eradicated, so I stopped the course and shifted myself in the urban area with the busy schedule in my job.
Now it has again raised and I can’t afford to go back at the village to have those remedies since I have to earn something. I am getting frustrated day by day what to do.

I have a similar problem. A couple of months ago I woke myself up choking and coughing. The back of my throat was burning like it had acid in it. When I woke up I could not breathe because my throat was thick with mucos. It was all I could do to keep from panicking. I made my way to the bathroom and started hacking up mucos like I have never done before. It was so bad I had to get my toothbrush out and keep brushing the back of my tongue and the roof of my mouth and spit and spit and spit. This has happened to me at least a half dozen times since. I don't believe it is acid reflux, I've never had a problem with acid reflux but I just don't think that is it.
Someone in an earlier post mentioned something about mold. I think they might be on the right track, because shortly after I started experiencing this problem mold appeared in my bedroom underneath the window. I have also notice that my sense of taste has been altered. I brush the heck out of my teeth and mouth and during the day I have a sour taste in my mouth and nothing tastes like it used to. Although, I do have very bad allergies and get shots every 3 weeks for the allergies I don't think it's related to that either. I have had allergies all my life and have never experienced anything like this.
Does anyone else have the burning sensation in their throat until they spit up all that mucos? I can actually feel it creeping up the back of my throat. It's very creepy. I wonder how they find out if it's mold exposure and how it is treated.

i have the same problem for the last 7months. I take MONTEK LC and ZYNCET tablets. It works fine.
I am getting the exact same thing over the past couple of weeks I am only 13 and I dont have any kind of asthma so i have no clue what is going on. Have not visited the doctors yet not sure if i should?
I've been having these problems for years. Night time only. Go to sleep fine but when I wake up (no matter when) I have mucus I have to spit out and then it continues with hasal and throat drainage for an hour. my mom had the same thing. I've tried sprays and medicine like singular but nothing worked. I went to an allergist last week and I'm allergic to mold and dust mites. I'm going to start shots this week. I don't know if it will help but I can't live like this anymore. Nice to know though that there are others like me. Tks for the posting
*cough* *inhale* *2 little coughs*, that's how my cough goes... only mornings and nights, when will it stop!!!
Years ago I struggled with the coughing symptoms at night, it was going on TWO YEARS, my wife's BFF is an MD and when they were over for dinner one night she suggested it was a milk allergy (which i had struggled with on and off taking lactaid etc to drink milk, this was before all the choices they have now) So desperate as I was, I cut out ALL Dairy, milk cheese butter, any and everything with milk or a milk derivative, even non dairy coffee creamer because it has casein (milk protein) and when I did this after about a month, boom, no more night coughs, no more excessive mucous. Now I have a little milk product now and then but never straight milk and no coughing. Free of it for years. Good luck... Also if you are taking a beta blocker for another health condition, some of them can heighten your body's allergic response and make you super sensitive to whatever it is you are allergic too.
You Should Make yourself throw up... its painful and disgusting but it worked out for me o.o i had the exact same problem
Try changing from ordinary milk to UHT, some proteins that can cause allergy are not a problem when heat treated.
