Hi, I was diagnosed with osteoporosis last month, and a doctor told me that I was in risk as a postmenopausal woman. What does it have to do with this condition? I know that osteoporosis is disease of the bones, but I don’t know what will happen to me.

Hi, I heard that osteoporosis occurs in many women after menopause. I am 60 years old, and I think I am in danger of having this condition, because both my mother and greandmother had it. Until now, I’ve never really thaught about osteoporosis. I went to a doctor to ask him if I can do a test to check if I have this condition. She told me that there is a Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), which is the best way of diagnosing osteoporosis. I intend to do it as soon as possible. This condition is dangerous, because it takes just a slight amount of stresse to cause a fracture. The fractures are most often ocured in hip, vertebral column and wrist. Osteoporosis is overwhelmingly prevalent in postmenopausal women, because estrogen deficiency is correlated with a rapid reduction in BMD.
