Hello,
my son is 18 months old and seems like his cravings for pacifier are bigger and bigger. I am really not sure what to do. I am giving him pacifier before bed time and naps, but it is like he want it during the day? Is this because of his teeth?

Hi!
yes, teeth are the reason. When child is between age 18 months and 24 months it is usual that his cravings for pacifier enlarge, because of his growing teeth. I would really recommend sticking to the schedule. Give him pacifier before bed and nap time, but not during the day. Kids can get “hooked” on that. If there is a grandma around, you must agree with her to follow your rules!
Regards!

I took my son's pacifier away at 6.5 months when his teeth started coming in because he started ripping at it and I was afraid that he might choke. He had a hard time going to sleep for a few nights but then it was over and he forgot all about it. My mom works in a pre-school teaching 4 year olds and I visited the class and thought that one of the boys was a special needs child because you can't understand him he sounded as if there was something wrong with him until my mom explained that he used a pacifier until he was 3 yrs old. How sad for him. He now goes to speech therapy. Take the darn thing away from him and just get it over with. You might have a few frustrating days but it will be worth it. God Bless.

How odd.
My son is autistic and uses a pacifier as a self soother. Having a pacifier has nothing to do with speech problems, unless you use one to keep them quiet. I've met many mothers/children who used pacifiers and have no problems, and ones that haven't used one and DO have problems.
How inappropriate for your mother to give you personal information about a child. That is against the law.
