I am happy as well to read about this problem, I also had a UTI and was put on three different antibiotics and some I was deadly sick from. And after tested negative I still have the pain in my urethea the outside is iritated and painful the phamisist told me to use powder and keep it dry but it persists. I think it is not only the infection that caused it but also the antibiotics. I have had scopes and they find nothing as well. I've been told it might be nervous blleader, that spicy foods cause it that salt causes it. All I know is that I never experienced this until I had a UTI the doctors give you pills for everything and don't seem to know the cause. It's making me crazy. I can't go to the gym, I can't have sex, and I'm in constant discomefort.  so thank you I don't feel I'm the only one , I just wish that a doctor could give us all a real answer.

Hi, I have similar problems as described by many others here- Recurrent UTIs associated with sex over the last 10 years, many many treatments with antibiotics, which typically help to tackle the strong burning and urge; however, in between actual infections I feel a throbbing pain in my urethra after urinating. No bacteria/actual UTI. It happens on most days, not every time I pee, but at least once or twice a day. I have seen a urologist several years ago, but nothing unusual was found. I now started an acupuncture/TCM treatment because I am so sick of conventional medicine simply not knowing the answer to our problems. The guest who wrote about treatment with TCM- if you should happen to read this, would you be able to tell me what type of medicine you got? I have been using Ba Zheng San for the last 6 weeks or so, but no improvement of the throbbing pain/ spasms in my urethra so far. As this is a medicine for actual bacterial infections, I am thinking it might not be the right treatment for what me and others here are experiencing. My acupuncturist is working on a more personalized formula, but I am curious what might have helped others who went the TCM route? I used to live in a different country and have done an oral vaccination against UTIs there some years ago (it's called UroVaxom and is not available in the US). This was the only thing that ever helped me to get rid of my symptoms, even the persistent, abacterial ones for some years. However, the effect seems to have faded now and I am back to where it all started, however this time without availability of this vaccination. If a vaccination should ever become available on the U.S. market I will definitely go for it and recommend everyone here to try it out as well. Stay strong everyone.

My story has been written over and over on these pages, though this is my first time to post.  I am female.I have had the urethra and abdomen pain for about 5 years.  I am a virgin, in my early 50's, due to religious reasons.  The whole thing started after manual manipulation of my private parts by a man.  It all came on about 3 days later.

That whole area has been examined by numerous M.D.s and no one can "see" anything wrong.

The only thing that alleviated pain was Premarin cream inserted vaginally.  After 5 years on it, I have tried to slowly taper off of it over the last 4 months.  I am about down to .5 mg every 8 days and the pain has resumed.

How old are you? Could be perimenapause causing this.

It can burn if your urine is concentrated. Have you looked at IC? x

I had a similar situation a few years back, burning pain around my urethra and I was being treated for uti and yeast infections because of the burning pain. Over two years I went to two gynaecologist and two urologist ad no one could find the problem. Finally I was referred to a gynaecologist who took one look through his microscope and said you have acne under the skin, he put me on an acne treatment for 6 months and a medication for nerve pain and I was good to go....I hope this helps.

I know you posted this over a year ago, but maybe this could help someone. I'm 22 and I've been suffering with urinary tract pain for 3 years. I can feel the burning before I even pee! It's painful and irritating! I also have had kidney stones, and the pain and burning isn't from uti. What I do, and it's the best I know so far: drink lots of water and only water, take urinary tract pain medicine (azo) and sit on a rolled up heating pad. Sometimes I take warm Epsom salt baths. I wish I could find a doctor who wouldn't just take my money, treat it as a uti, and ignore everything I'm saying.

Hey I just want to say that you all should read into pelvic floor dysfunction. The problem is likely trigger points inside your pelvis that send pain signals throughout your pelvis. I'm a male and I've been dealing with the problem for a year now. My symptoms are slowly going away with treatment. I used to have to pee every 30 minutes, but now my only symptom is urethral burning when I sit too long. I'm confident it'll go away with more physical therapy. Good luck everyone.

After reading through these posts I am 100% confident that you all have a pelvic floor dysfunction. Please don't disregard my opinion just because I'm male. I know what you're all going through, the pain, the burning, the urge, and I can tell you that it gets better. Once you get properly diagnosed and start physical therapy you will start to get your life back.

I've been treated for utis, yeast infections, prostatitis, all kinds of things. Antibiotics even helped at first. It all turned out to be pelvic floor dysfunction.

Who told you antibiotics were "damaging our bodies"? Where did you get this information from? Any research to support that statement?

I, too, have irritated bladder. No uti, no pain just frequent urination. Urine analysis showed the presence of atypical bacteria-ureaplasma. My urologist prescribed, antibiotics-doxycyline 2x/day for 14 days. There is little improvement, internals between urination is wider but the symptoms have not completely disappearres. When I see her for follow-up check in a few days, urine analysis will be requested to chexk if the atypical bacteria has been eliminates. If they are still there, I will need different antibiotica. If the results are negative, I am hoping that my urethra is healing itself and that may take a few days. Should your urine tests show atypical bacteria, drink cranberry juice too. The lakeside medical of CA suggested acidifying urine with cranberry juice when you have urethritis. This is to help weaken and eliminate the bacteria. Slightly acidic urine better. Highly acidic is good for bad bacteria. Also I saw a springer journal that says that doxycycline is more effective when urine is acidic. I hope this helps.
