Male here, mid 30s. Had what I thought was a massive UTI/Kidney infection after passing stones. Mild temp (99.4), cloudy urine, dehydrated, pain in the bladder moving down into the urethra. Went to the ER, they put me on Cipro for 5 days, thought I was feeling better but it relapsed. They put me on bactrim and told me to drown myself in water (1gal/day), I started to feel better. Finished my course 1 day later came back with a vengeance.
Went back to the urgent care because doctor's can't see you for months, waited for 3 days for a bacterial growth test, negative just like my first UTI analysis. Was put on augmentin. Still problems. It comes and it goes. I have an appointment with a Urologist and Nephrologist next week to get evaluated. No fever, no chills, no back aches except in the morning from my crummy bed and poor posture. Just pain in my urethra when I urinate and frequency to void (most of the time large volume due to how much water I drink).
I've tried lemon juice since it's good for stones (didn't help), occasionally a pinch of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) will soothe me for a while, but it's very annoying and I'm pretty much running out of antibiotic options and repeated tests show nothing in my analysis or dip stick tests (whether I'm concentrated or diluted).
A friend of mine who is also male told me he had stones and essentially he had scarred his bladder and urethra from the stone passing and that it was constantly inflamed. He had to go on a Dash diet and make his urine more alkaline for months before he saw relief. He still gets flareups but no one has been able to tell him what's wrong besides bladder/urethra inflammation from stones.
This is driving me mad.

When I need to urinate I don’t feel it in my bladder but rather my urethra.
When quickly turns into urgency.
This started after a UTI but WAS treated.

Have you been checked for interstial cystitis?
Have you been checked for ic; interstitial cystitis? Google it!
To everyone with this problem!!!
I had the same problem and started taking D-mannose powder (pure form). I got mine from Complete Natural Products. Took a week, but the problem is gone.

I don’t know if this could be it for you but I’ve found little to no information about this, seeing as it isn’t very common, I’ve been having inflammation in my urethra for about a month now. I’ve been to the doctor multiple times and been put on antibiotic but they weren’t doing anything. The pain started during my last period and I wear pads but they aren’t the scented kind and I’ve never had any issues before that. After the antibiotics and every home remedy and vitamin under the sun didn’t work but I was still showing up with an infection in my urine tests at the doctors and some blood. In my most recent visit they found glucose and took blood tests and stuff for that but my glucose tests came out fine. I’ve been drinking water non stop and going to the bathroom like crazy because of it, finally after the inflammation got down after days of this and drinking baking soda water and taking ibuprofen every six hours, I took a look down there and noticed some pus coming out of my urethra which has never happened before. I used a cue tip and shined a flashlight down there as I gently massaged and pushed down to see if the pus was irritating me and noticed the tiny tiny end of a hair sticking out of my urethra. It took a lot of finagling and cursing but I got it out gently and I feel like it was instant relief. I’m still going to be taking D-Mannose and Cranberry pills and am going back to the doctor to have another urine test to see if the infection is still present but I feel like that was the main cause for me and feel as though it could be for others so I wanted to share, even if it is TMI. Take a warm sitz bath or run warm water on the cue tip to try and ease the inflammation and it may help if you see anything. This hair was way way up there and inflaming it for weeks so I feel like it took a long time for my system to expel it enough for it to breach so I could get to it. I feel like wearing pads on my period and having that so close to my skin with the pads is maybe how the hair got up there in the first place, never had anything like that before or heard of it, but who knows. Just something to check and see. I hope you find the cause to your issue and get healthy soon!
Ive been dealing with something similar to why you all have described for the past month and a half. I’m a 24 year old female and finding a doctor in my area accepting new patients (USA) has been hell after covid. Ive only been able to get in to see Nurse Practitioners and I’m not sure what else to do. When I first went in they took a urine test and told me I had high white blood cells and blood in my urine so she determined a Uti. They put me on Nitrofuantoin which didn’t seem to do anything and then on Bactrim after that. By the fourth day of Bactrian I was still having symptoms but they were getting better since I was chugging water and trying to stay away from sugar and carbohydrates. But when I went back in they did a urine culture and blood work since they found nitrates and apparently glucose in my urine. Everything came back all clear and normal for everything. But the pain comes and goes. It doesn’t seem to matter what I eat or drink at this point it just seems to randomly get bad one day and then better the next. There is no burning when urinating or pain when urinating but all of the antibiotics seems to have given me a yeast infection. I feel like I treat the yeast infection but the swollen urethra just seems to cause another one or different type of issue. I’m experiencing vaginal dryness at times and during my last period I had very sharp aching vaginal pains. I have been to a gyno, which took forever to find and get an appointment with, and am waiting on results from a Pap smear. Ive never had a uti and only had one very mild yeast infection before all of this so this is extremely odd for me. The pain came on suddenly during the second day of my previous period over a month ago and just keeps seemingly going away and then coming back. If the Pap smear shows up all clear im going to have to struggle through finding a urologist. Ive been taking an all in one multivitamin, vitamin C, d3, and a cranberry infused urinary supplement that contains probiotics and D-mannose I believe but I can’t tell if it’s working. I really don’t know what to do anymore to alleviate the inflammation. Did anyone else’s symptoms seem to appear suddenly during a period? Do they seem to get worse when laying down or after taking a shower? The more water I drink the more I have to urinate which I can’t tell if it’s irritating me more having to go more frequently or if I should just continue even if it is in case there is some sort of unidentifiable bacteria that needs to be flushed out. Ive also tried to baking soda water trick and it only seemed to work for the first day or so. I’m starting to wonder if it’s a hormonal imbalance thing but I am on tri sprintec birth control pill and have never had an issue before. It’s so odd to see so many women struggling with something like this. I keep hearing of doctors just brushing off their concerns if there is no infection present and it’s definitely making me nervous. Please let me know if there are any remedies I havent tried yet that have worked for you! Id truly appreciate it and I hope we can all figure this out soon! Best of luck
Hi. Did you ever figure out what was happening? I just started suffering these exact symptoms mid July. I am a 49 year old female who has never had a UTI. After having all the symptoms of a UTI I went to the Dr and my urine was positive for white blood cells and blood. Dr put me on 5 day Macrobid treatment. He said if it didn’t get better to come back. It didn’t and I started having flank pain too. I figured I might have a kidney stone. I went back and based on his evaluation he sent me to the ER. The pain was so bad. They gave me 4 mg of IV morphine. It didn’t touch the pain. ER also checked my urine again and the infection had cleared. I had a CT scan and vaginal ultrasound. They came back fine. They told me to follow-up w/ my urologist. It took them until the end of August to get me in. In the meantime I saw my Gyno and when she did her vaginal exam everything was normal except when she touch where the neck of the bladder and urethra connect. That about brought me off the table. She also checked me for STI’s and that was clear. She sent a note to my urologist. He scheduled me for a ureteroscopy and cystoscopy and placed a stent. He said the only thing he saw was my urethra was inflamed and was in spasm so he stretched it. I just took the stent out today and I’m still suffering. The only thing that has let me sane is Pyridium, Advil, Tylenol and oxycodone. I found this page and felt some hope that at least I’m not going crazy. I can’t keep taking Oxy and Pyridium because Pyridium is hard on the liver.

The gyno prescribed some vaginal estrogen so I’m going to give it a try.
Hi. I’m having this same issue and wanted to see how you’re doing now and if you’ve discovered anything more as far as treatment goes.

I am having the same exact symptoms. Did you ever find out what’s going on with you?
It is probably a yeast infection!
Same thing happened to me, I treated it as a UTI and it didn't work. I then discovered it was a minor yeast infection and it got better after treatment.
