I gave birth in may 2010. I had a csection and I had to sit up,lean forward for my spinal epidural. WELL LET ME TELL U WHAT THEY DID. THEY COULDNT FIND THE SPOT TO INJECT ME SO THEY KEPT ON MOVING THE NEEDLE PUTTING PRESSURE ON MY BACK, ASKING ME, ME OF ALL PEOPLE, WHERE DO I FEEL THE PRESSURE. I WAS SO PISSED OFF, BECAUSE THEY KEPT MOVING IT BACK N FORTH AND IT WAS PAINFULL. I TOLD THE NURSE IF SHE NEW WAT SHE WERE DOING CAUSE SHE LOOKED ALL LOST, SHE WAS AN INTERN I THINK, BUT IT TOOK HER ABOUT 9 TILL I TOLD HER THAT I FEEL THE PRESSURE IN THE MIDDLE. SHE FINALLY STUCK ME AND THANK GOD THAT WAS OVER. I TOLD THE DOC WAT HAPPENED AND HE SAID NOTHING. I WENT HOME N MY HUBBY SAW A BIG BRUISE WHERE I WAS INJECTED. TILL THIS DAY, IVE BEEN HAVIN LOWER BACK PAIN WHERE I WAS INJECTED. ASKED THE DOCTOR,HE SAID ITS INFLAMMATION OR MY WEIGHT. TO BE BLUNT, THATS BULL c**p KUZ MY BACK WAS FINE UNTIL THAT NURSE COULDNT FIND THE SPOT AND TO TOP IT OFF, SHE TOLD ME I WAS SITTING WRONG,SO I HAD TO MOVE BACKWARDS ON THE LABOR TABLE WHILE THE NEEDLE WAS IN MY BACK,AND TRY NOT TO MOVE MY UPPER BODY. WELL DURING MY FIRST LABOR,I WAS TOLD U CANT MOVE AT ALL DURING THE SPINAL EPIDURAL B_CAUSE U CAN BE PARALIZED AND IT CAN DAMAGE YOUR SPINAL. SO CAN SOMEONE PLS TELL ME THAT, CAN A NURSE DO THAT AND IF THEY HAD THAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE. ONE MORE THING, WHEN MY BABY WAS TWO MONTHS, I FELT A SHARP PAIN GOING STAIGHT DOWN MY SPINE,AND AFTER THAT, I COULDNT MOVE,OR GET UP. I HAD TO ROLL OVER,OFF THE BED USING MY HANDS TO PUSH MY LEG DOWN.I FELT PARALYZED BECAUSE IT HURTED TOO MUCH TO EVEN TURN OR GET UP. MY HUBBY HAD TO TURN ME OVERAND HELP ME UP. AND EVEN NOW, ILL GET SHARP TINGLES IN MY LOWER BACK AND I KNOW THATS BECAUSE THAT NURSE DIDNT KNOW WHAT SHE WAS DOING..YES, I WENT THERE..

i had my baby 8 months ago and they gave me an epidural. well i felt everything all contraction and labor. after i gave birth it felt like someone shot me in the back of the head and my back was in so much pain i couldnt walk nor could i hold my head up. when i laid down the pain went away. they told me i just strained a muscle in my neck while pushing and kept giving me percocet for the pain. well after i got released from the hospital  i went home and about two hours after being home i raced to the ER bc i could not take it. the doctors told me that while putting in the epidural i got nerve damage and it leaked causing me to have no fluid in my head. thats why it felt better when i laid down bc the fluid came back up. so they had to shoot blood back into my spine to clot the hole. worst pain ive ever been through and still i have back pain. and every often i will get in a position and a pain will shoot from my back to my neck. i have bills for $4000.00 for them messing up n then fixing. so a nurse that works at the hospital told me id be crazy if i didnt sue.

My daughter is almost 12 years old and I've also experienced intermittant pain from the epidural ever since then. It has gone away as long as a year, but now it's back in full force. I can place the tip of my index finger on my back in exactly the spot the epidural was given. It isn't associated with any other lower back pain or anything, just that spot.

I've had terrible lower back pain since my epidural seven months ago.  It feels as though I have been clubbed on the lower back and am severely bruised although there is no physical evidence of anything.  Sitting either on the floor or on a chair is excruciatingly painful, so I have to constantly lean to one side to avoid the pressure.  Sitting the car is particularly painful and I doubt I will ever be able to horse ride again.  I've tried osteopathy and pilates.  My doctor simply sent me to physio, which was pointless.  I was in labour for 48 hours and was utterly desperate with the pain, but I do wish I hadn't had the epidural now as it feels like a life sentence.

Is there any hope?  Has anyone found some relief for this pain?

Thanks blaufeuer. It gives me a little hope to know yours resolved itself. I'm still in as much pain as the day after giving birth, but I have slightly better days (mostly when I don't try to sit down at all), so there's always hope.

I recently suffered from a pheumothorax which is a collapsing of the lung without a fluid build up but an air build up. I am male and have just started having these pains myself after surgery which required an epidural for post op pain managemnt. feels like someone is pressing a hot penny on my spine with alot of force.

I had my son 12 years ago, the pain started at the injection site.  A year later it started to travel down my right arm, and up the back of my neck, with a burning feeling to the right side of my head. I've had tests done over the years, but nothing.  The doctors always ask me if I had a epidural, and then say OH and start writing.  When I ask if they think it was from the epidural they all say no. Still living in pain, but do notice light yoga, and heat helps a little. I do believe Doctor's cover for each other for sure.

I never ever had back problems till i had an epidural 8 months ago having my daughter via c-section, from day one i have been searching online about it and as there are so many in the same boat and nothing seems to be getting done about it i never mentioned it to my doctor as i feel what will i have to gain.  i have red everyones replies on here and the only way i can describe it which is a tad different from everyone, but im sure alot can relate in that for me it feels like someone holding i lighter up against the exact spot that needle was put in particularly when im feeding or changing baby and my back is slightly bent over in doing this, i have to stop immediately and get my back straight up again.  i had the pain from day one of having her everyday till now 8 months on and i have no doubt it is here to stay.

My son is 2 and I still have the pain - often. They attempted a spinal and it did not take effect, so they put me to sleep for my c-section. I have had pain ever since. At the moment it's excruciating - which is why i'm even on this site. I was trying to get more information. In the evenings I lay on a heating pad - and Aleve seems to help better than anything.

Good Luck - I hope it doesn't last long for you.

I had my daughter 4 months ago and just last week started having pain at the injection site of my epidural. Really wishing I had looked more into the side effects before taking it. They should have to warn people that although you may not experiance the pain of childbirth you will possibly experiance spinal pain everyday after. Had I only known before taking it.. :-/
