Pain in epidural injection site 8 months later

13 years later.. I still have pain at the injection site. You are not alone in your thinking!

My life changed 2 weeks ago....I have constant pain and can't even walk straight. Nothing helps. I am scared so I started researching on Google to see if there was anyone else and you are the only one that I have found that feels this way so many years later. I am 40 yrs. old..I've had 2 epidurals.....one 10 yrs. ago and the other 11 yrs. ago (my sons are 11 1/2 months apart)....the area where I had my epidural hurts, its tender to the touch, sometimes it feels like a bad sunburn under my skin..I can't bend over or lay on my back, it feels a little better when I am in the fetal position. I don't know what to do :(

I got the epidural 13 yrs ago also 11 yrs ago I've always had pain where they injected me but never as bad as now I attended my gp where they sent me for an X-ray and said it was scar tissue from having the epidural basically said there's nothing you can do about it only to control the pain I'm on 15 mg morphine patches and can still feel the pain which has now spreaded all over my back. On the 5th of September I've to go to physical therapy which I had to refer myself as my gp don't refer u any more so fingers crossed it helps. I've been taking a bit of canibas (dope) and truth it helps loads especially after cleaning I am a mum of 3 and also my husband full time career as he has ms and it really does help him too hope use all get some relief cos there's nothing worse than chronic pain. It has been 7years since I have had my son through Caesarean Section ( In 2011). I still feel pain and discomfort below my back bone exactly at the place where i got a shot for Anesthetic injection

I literally have this exact same thing, I gave birth 9 months ago, and first noticed the bruised sensation maybe a month or two ago, it comes and goes. I see you posted this about a year ago, did yours ever go away completely?? I’ve had two other babies and never had this before, only with my third.

To me, this is so bizarre that so many women experience this! My daughter is almost 3, and for as long as I can remember after having her, my epidural spot had felt bruised. I find that when I do a lot of lifting, the area surround it hurts so much worse. Typically though, it’s not excruciating—just a nuisance.

My sister warned me not to get the epi, because 9 years later her back is still in terrible pain at the Epi injection site. I don’t understand how doctors can deny this. It seems incredibly common.

I think it's interesting those who don't give birth think they can say "it's impossible"

OMG...I had the realisation this morning whilst talking with a colleague about her impending birth experience & possible interventions that the pain in my back could be related to the epidural needle entry point (Birth happened in Malaysia, Chinese Hospital, English Trained Doctors) - from 17 years ago!!...I'm amazed that my quick internet search has located your post describing your situation - my pain sensation is exactly as you describe it! It's been there for at least 6 months (I'm hopeless at recalling the exact timing of issues!) - I initially thought it was because we were in need of a new mattress & perhaps my lack of exercise, & have been sleeping upright in a chair to minimise the discomfort on waking up each morning from a horizontal position! I'm definitely getting it investigated medically now!!

I came here tonight to see if anyone else was experiencing pain after an epidural 10 years later....that’s what I am experiencing also, and it’s just as you described your pain. I think it’s odd that after 10 years, I’d still feel pain there. My pain is constant today, I didn’t do anything to my back, no injuries or anything. It feels like pressure AND a stabbing pain at the injection site. Maybe it’s from nerves being torn through during the epidural at the time, and they never truly heal

My “baby” turned 5 years old this week and I STILL have this pain. It’s worse in the evenings, a very sharp stab if I move the wrong way. Took 5 attempts to get my epidural and then needed a blood patch the next day.

I have the same problem and it’s been 8 years.

I had my epidural 22 years ago and ever so often the site becomes irritated. I get a small bump that burns and have soreness around the area. I have been telling my family for years that it's from the epidural but no one believes me.When I asked a physician about it they said my pain is from the "bump" and it wil go away. The bump only appears sometimes, always in the same spot directely on my spine. I never wanted the epidural an dI guess now I have to live with this discomfort forever as a reminder.

I had my son 22 years ago and I still have tenderness at the site. 10 years ago I gave birth to my daughter and told them to inject in a different location, they did. The soreness is worse when it’s time for my period. It’s all very strange. It hurts to the touch as well. I probably should get it examined because it’s getting worse.

None of us are crazy, and it is not impossible if we are ALL feeling this same pain to various degrees with entirely different labor stories. Our culture of greed doesn’t make room for science to grow or admit wrongdoing/fault. Did anyone ask what was in their epidurals? I’m sure you are all familiar with the rise in deaths from overdoses - especially in the last few years. If you haven’t heard that fentanyl is the cause of pretty much all of the overdoses, look it up. I have 3 babies - all vaginally delivered with an epidural. My first is 16, middle is 10, and baby is 9 months. I have had pain in my epidural site since my first baby and it has increased with intensity each time. I cannot bend over for long without almost feeling stuck. I’m only 33! This is not age related back pain. With my youngest baby, I cannot carry her in a store for more than 5 minutes because the pain becomes so intense that I swear and feel sick. This pain has been consistently in the same spot of my epidural. It has not improved, but almost is worse than ever now. There is some kind of fluid or knot there now too, that just happened after this last baby. Our science and medical education system is riddled with greed and influence of corporate wealthy dynasties. Fentanyl was not in my epidural from 2006 or 2012, but fentanyl is now the norm for epidurals. I didn’t want fentanyl, and asked for an alternative and I was laughed at. I was told they always use it and there isn’t another option. I firmly said that was impossible because I’m sure that’s not what I had with my other two. They shrugged it off and said matter of fact that’s what they’re using and that it didn’t make a difference. Fentanyl is killing my generation and younger daily, everywhere, and they’re normalizing it for labor and delivery. My brother overdosed twice on fentanyl and is lucky to be alive right now and I didn’t want to use fentanyl as a matter of moral principle - and I was laughed at. Like I don’t know anything about side effects. Just like women all over the world have reported that they have had period related side effects from the Covid Vaccines but the WHO won’t speak of it - there is absolutely something wrong with epidurals and there is a greed factor at play here. If your gut says something isn’t right, go with that gut and keep talking to each other. Gaslighting women and telling us we don’t know our own bodies and that we can’t tell what actual pain is - this is what happens and it will keep happening. Posts like this are important check ins for this very reason. I’m going to try yoga, whatever doesn’t lead to a doctor prescribing me BS.
