Brief History; (MALE, 31y/o as of 03/2018) 2 tours in Iraq; 2nd tour we were ambushed. I ended up getting shot in mid/lower back by 2 AK-47 rounds. Had body armor on so no penetrating trauma, only soft tissue injury [OR SO I WAS TOLD BY THE VA] the NP who was my GP @ the time wrote it off as my “consequence to having poor posture”. After being denied and delayed appointment after appointment. I paid for medical insurance through my employer and that Dr. stated it was a “BACK MOUSE” very matter of fact like. Said if it gets worse or starts to cause more pain they can explore the options of a removal or just treat the pain with narcotics. (THIS WAS IN 2010 & there were only 2 “lumps” at the time.) I NOW HAVE 5! ! ! With the original 2 reaching near golf ball sizes. The pain is almost constant and I have developed sciatica down my right leg. I’m tired of the pills. IT SEEMS LIKE THE PHYSICIANS COULD CARE LESS ABOUT WHAT THE “IGNORANT PATIENT” IS DESCRIBING AS THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR OWN PAIN AS WELL AS MAKE YOU FEEL STUPID FOR SUGGESTING YOUR PAIN IS COMING FROM THESE LUMPS! THEY'RE EVEN LESS WILLING TO ORDER AN MRI BUT THEY’LL PRESCRIBE A (23 year old young man) 210 NORCO A MONTH WITHOUT BATTING AN EYELASH! (SMFH!!!) DUE TO POOR POSTURE MY ASS!!
***Dont trust the first opinion or even the first 3! YOU KNOW YOUR BODY LITERALLY IN & OUT. TRUST YOUR GUT AND KEEP FIGHTING FOR A PROPER DIAGNOSIS! YOUR LIFE VERY MAY WELL DEPEND ON IT.

I also have a lump under my skin on my lower right back. I felt it when the back of my chair caused a bit of discomfort and I felt it when reached back to feel what I believed to be no injury. I then tightened my back in the area and it became more noticeable to the touch.

The small painful lumps in the lower back ar related to low back pain. They are FATTY FIBRO-FATTY NODULES. They have many names in medical literature: episacriliac lipoma, lumbar fat herniation, subfascial fat herniation, back mice. They are OVERLOOKED from medical community for several reasons. They can cause CLUNEAL PAIN by pressing on the superficial nerves. They can be treated by local enesthetic infiltration or by surgery.

I think I might have these as well. Do you recommend anything I could take OTC to shrink them?

I have suffered the same thing for a decade now. I have seen doctors who have misdiagnosed my situation for years. I've spent a small fortune on copays for facet injections, nerve blocks, chiropractors, etc. FINALLY I saw a nurse practitioner who told me I have sacro-ilac lipomas. I am having them surgically removed next month. The surgeon says the pain should be completely gone afterwards. These are very common in men, especially between the ages of 40 and 60. Look up "painful lower back lipomas" on line before you spend any money on "specialists". I wish I'd advocated for myself a decade earlier!

How are you now?? I know you're not crazy. I got the same types of responses for "expert" doctors. Have you had any surgical procedures to remove the lumps?? My doctor also pushed opiates on me. Thankfully I didn't take him up on his offer. I hope you have since improved and feel better!

The doctors do NOT know about these painful lipomas (now known as back mice), because somehow "they have been ignored by the medical community" in the last 50 years. But on the middle of the century they were studied and low back pain was cured in most cases by the surgical removal of them. All the medical articles about them are collected in ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** posting of web addresses is not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
