sounds like you have muscles spasms or knots (myofascial trigger points).
a sports massage therapist should be able to help if this is the case.

I also have a lump as well, however, mine is located on the lower left side of my back; almost right in the divot of my back dimple. It's small, pea sized, and can be moved only a little. At the beginning it only hurt when pressure was applied, however two years later it frequently causes my left hip and leg to stiffen up and have sharp shooting pains. I am a self proclaimed hypochondriac so when I first told my Dr about the lump under my skin she wrote it off and said it was most likely a cyst. I'm thinking about going in again to get it checked out further given the recent occurring pains and symptoms. If anyone has any advice or insight please feel free to share, so that I may have a deeper understanding of what is going on with my body.

Hi there, suffering from the same excruciating back and leg pain. Did the excision resolve all symptoms?
Considering removal this Thursday. Was it a specific type of surgeon that you sought out?

Any information would help.

Thanks.

Look up hernia of the inferior lumbar space. This is not a herniated disc but a posterior abdominal hernia. Fat herniates through the defect and drags on the nerves in that area as it pushes through. It presents as a painful lump that causes disabling back pain. It is often mistaken for a lipoma. Removing the herniated fat and repairing the hernia will cure it. The problem is convincing anyone that it is not just a lipoma. It is supposed to be a rare type of hernia but it probably occurs way more often than the literature says it does. There is an article by Dr. Harry C. Light that describes it in more detail. Unfortunately the whole article is available from the JAMA for a fee. But you can read a synopsis for free

I'm very curious as to why a back mouse should not be massaged, wouldn't that help break it up. I have had shiatsu massage ar poo und and on mine, it brings hours of relief.

Yes I am the same.. I have lumps either side. I suffer from FAP, so certain things I need to be aware of. I had surgery 3 weeks ago.. and over the past week I have noticed some serious pains while I sit or lie down on either side all of a sudden. I didn't know what was going on, and thought it was just from the surgery and doing too much. Tonight, I lent over and felt the areas, at a 90 degree angle as you stated, and yes.. I can feel lots of lumps on either side where the pain is. I am deeply worried as I know to be aware of them due to my FAP gene. How have you been since surgery? Any recurrence? I will be ringing my Doctor as soon as they open, but wanted to know how it went for you please? Thank you if you see this.
