A small bump able dime sized but unlike what everyone else has said it is not on the lower back
It is on the back side of his traps ( muscle ) it does not hurt when I push done around it... But it does cause him
Some pain when I push on it. There are no discoloration in or around the area , just after looking at that one bump
He discovered another about two inches directly across his spine from the other larger bump. This was just found today.
He was doing some horse play a couple days ago with friends; could hat be part of it ????

i have the same lump on my right side by my hip and it's so sore at times i feel it most when i walk up stairs. when i push down on it it goes in then comes right back up.. I don't know what else to do .It may be something and it may not be any thing. But i've had that pain for over a weekn now and the nurses at my job thinks that my back is inflamed....I'll ask one of the Dr at my job for a better understanding of what it is

Wow. What a great forum !! I've had this knot in my back and felt the same things as everyone on this page. I recently went to my Orthapedic Specialist and he said that it was a fatty knot and that I should tough it out. He said that he wouldn't let anyone cut on him if he were me. However , my bk pain is getting worse. Been working out trying to get the blood flowing...but afterwards , it throbs. Hurts to sit down , hurts to bend and kneel. Fu** !!! I hate pills , so I just have a beer and deal with it. But after 3 weeks of this , I'm already tired of it !!! I had surgery back in '03 to fix 2 ruptured discs and I waited until my limbs started going numb before I had surgery. So , I know how it is to tough things out. I want it fixed !!! I'm only 41 and I feel like 80. I know there's no magical answer , but it's good to know I'm not alone%-)

I have the same thing, but on my right side. It doesn't always hurt, but when it does, it really does. My doctor also said it was a benign fatty tumor. If you don't decide to get it removed, I've noticed that massage and stretching, like yoga, really helped me. It also helps to take the pressure off your back in any way you can (shoe inserts, posture, etc.). Eating less inflammatory foods helped me as well as drinking plenty of water.

I am a little worried. As soon as I woke up yesterday, the bottom left side of my back, just above my buttock, I have a sharp lasting pain which seems to remain whatever way I sit and also stand.
I would have thought that I might have just pulled a muscle from laying down incorrectly but when I felt my back there is a lump in my skin. Looking through these comments, I had to feel it again just to make sure and I allocated the lump and I think i've just pressed it a bit too hard and I felt it move!!!! The pain has just shot up and the whole of my left side is in pain. Please help :(

ive had a bump on my lower back by my back dimples for a while. i went to the doctor today and was told i have scoliosis, which is where your spine is crooked, the doctor knew right away when i showed him my back. it is best you go check with your doctor. he will most likely tell you to go to the chiropractor as i did today. hope this helps:)

My husband found a lump on the lower left hand side of my back. Basically, my love handle. I did realize that I was getting thicker in that area but not on the other side. I didn't think much of it. Until he asked, "What on earth IS THAT??" It was about an inch at that point. The very next week it grew to two inches. I don't have insurance so I went to the local Clinic to be seen by the best doctor for free. He told me it's a LIPOMA. Meaning, a BENIGN tumor. If I want it removed, I can go back in one week and he'll remove it for free. Wonderful! But here's my bit of confusion. A lipoma is soft and can be moved. Mine is hard and does NOT move. Also, a Lipoma grows slowly. Mine doubled in size in one week! I wonder if my Lipoma is REALLY a Lipoma afterall?

Cured! I have had a "fatty" lump on my lower left back for years. First DOC said oh its nothing. That was eight years ago. The exterior lump never changed in size.....but finally after what everyone has done and looked at in all these forums...I went to a surgeon, he saw the small lump, took it out ....BUT the small exterior lump was two inches deep into my back causing all types of discomfort and mobility issues. I am still recovering from sugery but I already feel better. GET the MRI, xrays do not show tissues and some tumors. DO NOT take the "oh take this anti-inflamatory drug"....I fixed my core problem and refused to take bandaid solutions like pain killers to buy time. Sometimes of course this is the only option but eight years later I learned for me it was not the case. Hope this helps others suffering from what I did for many years.

I also have a bump in my lower back just beside my spine where my back dimples are. The bump is internal and on the right side. It has been there for quite a while now. It is not painful not even to the touch. This forum has been helpful I will see a doctor soon. Boba- was your bump painful in any way. From the sounds of it I have similar symptoms.

I had one of these lumps on the rt side of my back about 20 years ago. They took it out because it freaked me out. Now I am in my 60s and have terrible back pain on the left side. When I was feeling my back I felt the same type of lump that I had had in the right side in almost the exact same place--but opposite side. I am having pain in that area that radiates down into the lower left quadrant. I don't know if they are related or not. I worry that the lump is on my kidney, but I have no blood in urine, no urgency, etc etc. I know in my mind that it is probably just another lipoma and the the lower left Q is not related--but I am still going to have to get to the cause of the pain for peace of mind. I see a kidney doc next week. I already had an abdominal CT scan, a transvaginal ultrasound and a colonoscopy all negative. I think it may be related to becoming too sedentary as a result of irritable bowel syndrome which makes going out not that fun. So, I will try to see what this is but may have to be content with not knowing and trial and error to make it stop hurting.

I have 2 of these lumps, one on each side of my back come and go for about the last 10 years. I am 40 now. When they are there, they are painful. When they get bad, they cause muscle spasms that spread across my lower back. I notice that they are distinctly related to what I am eating. I think they are some kind of inflammation, perhaps of a lymph node caused by a food reaction or by a systemic candida infection which moves around to different parts of my body. When I am on a strict diet without inflammatory foods and sugars they go away. Lately, I have been eating more sweet foods than usual and they are back and painful. I have asked numerous health practitioners and no one seems to know what they are, but a few alternative practitioners did suggest swollen lymph glands. Try going on a sugar free low-carb diet and see if this helps. And/or cutting out commonly allergenic foods such as wheat and dairy. At one point my back was so bad that I couldn't work some days, now they come and go, but are mostly just a nuisance. Now they are flaring up when I am trying to come off sugar, but ultimately will be better without sugars in my diet. I know this sounds crazy to a lot of people, but I have learned to completely manage my physical and mental health through supplements and the foods I eat. : ) I had a lymphatic drainage treatment which I also, think was helpful, but have to have a few more to be sure it wasn't just a coincidence....

Update: I have jumped through several hoops to appease the doctors, from cortizone injections, working out more to stretching. I finally went to a plastic surgeon who actually knew what I have but advised me to leave them alone but would remove them if I wanted him to but I need to go back to the spine Dr for his final approval. While on cortizone I had my message therapist push my lumps around to stretch them to see if it would cause extreme pain, with in 24 hours I could barely stand, we did this experiment twice to verify. After explaining to the spine Dr that cortizone shots did nothing and what the experiment did he agreed that I should have my lumps removed. I am now discussing whit the plastic surgeon on what we can do to remove my lumps....I will keep you posted. If anyone has had theirs removed please post.

Wow...this sounds so similar to my back lump, pain and doctor experieces! I have had a lump on my right side for years. It is atleast an inch big and palpable deep under my skin.. I have been to the chiro about a dozen times for treatment (did not help at all!), been to GP, have had MRI which did not find it, even to a surgeon who verified my disk are degerated and I have a narrowing of the spine. The surgeon wanted to put a rod in my back (I said no to that) All of these years it is the "lump" on my right side, about an inch over from my spine that is killing me! I like to work out and need it as a single mom to reduce stress, but after all of these years it is almost too painful to even hit the gym...and sleep? LOL on that....I have been up "every" night at least 3-4 times for years now because of the pain. It is frightening and frustrating....but I am glad for a few answers from you all! Atleast I have a little hope to go along with my lump! I will go back and be more adament that this lump must be addressed. Thank you all for insight!
