I have had 2 lumps, 1 on the right and 1 on the left about 2 inches from my spine and avove my buttocks.  The 1 on the right was always larger then the left but now it has gotten even bgger and I feel another small 1 below it.  I have had them for several years and was told by a previous doctor the were fatty tumors and don't worry about them.  I have 3 herniated discs in my lower back and RLS. Since the right 1 has gotten larger the RLS has gotten worse.  The lumps are moveable and don't hurt but I have back pain, which I assume is from the herniated discs.  I go to the doctors next week and want her to really check them out.  Does anyone else with these lumps have RLS?  I am wondering if the lumps are what has made the RLS worse.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The research that I have done trying to figure it out, these lumps show up in the illiosacral portion of the lower back the most. It goes by several names as episacral lipoma, illiosacral triangle syndrome and back mouse. It is a fat pocket that has come through the muscle fascia from lifting heavy objects or continuous pressure caused by sitting long periods of time or being obese. Dynamic chiropractor a news letter for chiropractors states that palpitating (pressure onto the lipoma) can cause more pain and more "nerve" like pains such as the shooting pains or burning sensations radiating down an appendage or the hip. Sence these some through the muscle fascia they can return to the correct position by going through that same tear or rupture but, because of the tear or rupture through the fascia, if it does not heal completely the lump can come back through. Because of the nature of the issue many of your pain medications and muscle relaxants will not help the pain, just makes you think about it less (my experience). Dynamic chiropractor also states two tests to diagnose the back mouse causing pain. One, if palpitating of the lipoma causes more pain and the injection of an anesthetic local to the lipoma with an immediate relief of pain. AI myself have found it hard to get a proper diagnosis from General doctors because 80 to 90 percent of "lipomas" do not cause pain. Several treatments have been used to facilitate relief most was the excision of the lipoma.

I had pain full lump in my low left back! For years I begged doctor after doctor to cut it out! They can feel it but no ultrasound or MRI could find it! So much pain down my leg and back! After 5 years I went to the Cleveland clinic in Weston Fl, I was on my knees crying and begging for him to cut it out! Finally he agreed to do it! I had to put a mark on my back where it was and he did it! After wards he said I don't think that was causing your pain! He was right! I still have a lump there and he won't help me?to get it because they can't see it on MRI or ultrasound! They are trying to tell me it's all in my head! I can feel it! So here I'am left to suffer it's there! But they say no! The other day I couldn't even walk it was so bad! I'm crying and praying to God for mercy! ITS HURTS 24/7 SO NOW WHAT? more pain management GOD help me! 57 years old! My wife of 20 years divorced me and took my house and kids! Everything! And I do irrigation for living so bent over all day in pain! If I was rich I could pay for exploratory surgery to get it? But I'm SOL FOR NOW! (WALTER)

If I may ask, why should the "mice" themselves not be massaged, I do feel some comfort and relief from applying some pressure and gentle massage by my own reaching hand as though it were a bruise? Thanks.

I found my lump after I was in a car accident, I have been through pt and pain pills, muscle relaxers and its not better better, only bigger. I don't know what it is but I have finally found a dr who listened to me and has scheduled me for an ultrasound. It's large and causes severe pain that radiates down my back through the hip into my leg. Hopefully I'll find my answers soon.

OK all of your accounts is like reading my own story..the pain is horrendous and like all you could not get an answer why..I also since the back pain started and noticed the lump the size of egg started experience widespread pain with no explanation. My GP sent me to a neurologist who diagnosed me with Myofascial Pain Syndrome. I went home and researched it and bang on. I suspect what most of you are experiencing is this a GP will not diagnose this because they are not qualified to nor do they believe or have any empathy for something they can't see through test results. Every day is a struggle for me. Understanding myofascial is helpful and learning techniques of trigger point release and foam rolling helps..If any of you feel this is your situation ask for a referral to a neurologist who can diagnose you and help treat your pain. Myofascial can be localized to one group of muscles or in my case full body and is compared to fibromyalgia. I hope this information helps to give you some answers. God Bless and I wish this information can lead you to a pain free life.

I would love to know the outcome of your diagnosis.I have masses of lumps above both hips on each side of my lower back, they have grown into more masses and now are creeping up my lower spine.I keep being told it is just fast tissue or deposits.I believe them to be something else.I lookmforward to hearing what you found out. Kind regards Cheryl
