I have a very similar situation going on. My pain has been in my back and directly across from that in my abdomen. I know this post was a year or so ago and i'm wondering if you've taken any action? Please please reply and let me know. I've had 6 exploratory surgeries and the doctors are convinced this pain isn't coming from my lipomas in my low back. Thank you in advance!

Did they take out the lipomas? Mine are myofacial, meaning they are attached the the facia material ( the white strands that cover the muscle). The lumps pull on the facia an cause my pain. It has radiated to the front and groin area as well when I over work.

I haven't had mine removed. I'm just searching this out as a possible cause of my pain. I've been searching for the cause for years. Spent countless money on surgery. I will let you know if I have them removed!

I have had a fusion of the L4,L5, S1 about 7 years ago for Spondylolithesis but even before that, I had pain and a somewhat bulging from my back on the right side 1/4 the way up.  If I stand staight, you can see it but like everyone else, no one understands it.  It is tremendously painful at the touch and if someone approaches me from the back and touches it, it can bring me to my knees.  I have went to Chiro's, PT, stabilization exercises, pain management, accupuncture, dry needling, etc.  Nothing helps.  I have tried rolling my skin on my back and can feel the tumor below and hae like "crushed" it in my hands and its very painful but relieving afterwards.  My pain doesnt go down to my legs but shoots thru my entire upper body to the ends of my hair and ears.  I am now trying Rolfing, a massage technique.

I am more convinced now that it seems to be a tumor thing that needs tob e removed and I bet too that it must go deep like some of the comments I have seen here.  I can live my fusion but I can't live with this pain anymore, it sucks and will be finding out what it possibly is.

Most likely, if it is a small lump in a painful muscle (and pressing on the lump causes pain, sometimes extreme) that moves freely, it is termed a myofascial trigger point. These happen when the body has unusual strain; it is a reflex pattern between the nerve, vascular, and muscle tissue. Pinpoint massage, dry needling (with accupuncture needles), and functional positional release techniques can help reduce these greatly. If the lump of tissue grows very large (size of a golf ball or larger), becomes excrutiatingly painful, limits movement, shows signs of bruising or hemorrhaging, or lies immediately beneath the skin (much like a cyst), you should probably see your physician. Physical therapists, osteopathic physicians, physiatrists, accupuncturists, and some specialized massage therapists can definitely help if you have a myofascial trigger point.

Thanks Chaffdo. My lump are large and clustered. They don't cause a lot of pain when pushed on, the pain comes several hours later in muscle spasms and limited movement. The plastic Surgeon called them myofacial. I was glad someone at least new what they are. But he did recommend leaving them. I say they have to go....

yes! I know you wrote this over a year ago, but that happens to me. Also if I lie on my back, lift my legs up and then lower them down slowly.

I get an awful, deep popping sound when I do burpees (check youtube for example) or mountain climbers but only on the side with my injury and the angry back mouse. I actually can feel one on the side that wasn't injured and that one NEVER hurts.

Hello all:
Last October I had an accident where my cat got behind me, between me and the washing machine and in order not to step on him, I lost my balance, spilled the water that was in my hands, my feet slid out from under me and my back slammed into the pointed corner of the washer.  I was in extreme back spasm for 5 weeks. I didn't break any ribs though it felt like it. The area is above my left waist, and medial to the spine. I have regular massage and had massage to resolve my injury. About two months ago my massage therapist found the "lump", which has not changed size since then, but causes pain similar to that which I experienced from my injury for 5 weeks. I believe, in my case, the lump is in response to the terrible trauma to my back. But I find it curious that this is such a widespread condition. It affects all ages, in the same general areas. I'm wondering if it has to do with our magnesium levels? There is a product called Natural Calm that might be able to help??? certainly can't hurt.  I've used it for other things, specifically muscle weakness, and stress. When we are stressed, it depletes our magnesium levels. I'm going to do an experiment by taking magnesium every day and see if in time there is a change to the lump. I hope you all find some relief, and thanks to all who wrote, as it is a comfort to know so many have experienced this.
