Hi my name is Jo and I'm a 22yr old female from Bristol, UK
Well, where can I start with this? I've had pain in my lower right abdomen since February 25 of this year. I remember this date very well because I went to London with my boyfriend for my birthday.
Anyway, we were just walking around and I had a stitch in my lower right abdomen. This was the first time I had felt any kind of pain like this. We started to walk a little slower and on a few occasions we stopped walking altogether, as it could be from the walking. But it didn't show any signs of stopping. The pain did radiate from my lower abdomen, across my hip and to my groin area.
Somehow, one way or another, it did eventually stop even though I didn't do anything to stop it.
The pain in my lower right tummy has woken me up on a few occasions, quite early in the morning. The pain kept on and on at the same time in March, and I eventually decided to see a doctor in April, who couldn't find anything wrong. He referred me to an osteopath.
When I saw the osteopath, he had noted in a letter sent to my doctor that I had a general hypermobility in my lower back (around the L4/L5 level - I don't really know what he meant) and that I had hypertonia around the lower right psoas muscle around my pelvic area.
Even though I attended the sessions fortnightly, the pain didn't go away.
I was referred back to another doctor at my clinic in June, who again found nothing.
The pain got very bad at the start of this month, and so I saw a female doctor and not a male one.
She noted a swelling in my lower right tummy, and she wanted me to have a pelvic exam.
A week later, I went for a pelvic exam, but I couldn't have it because of the thought of having a speculum inside me plus I'm not sexually active (so I was a little bit...tight). I did tell her that the pain has kept up and that I've been passing a lot more stools lately. Before I only passed 1 every 3/4 days, but at the time I saw her I had passed 1 every day.
She advised me it could be my diet, and so to eat more healthily. (I eat meat and veg every day!) She referred me for an ultrasound scan and a musculoskeletal assessment, which I haven't had yet.
This week, I've been passing 2-4 stools every day, without fail.
Today (24/07/07) the tummy pain got quite bad.
6.30am I woke up today and my right hip felt a little stiff, which is often the start of the pain. I got up, and I felt fine.
7.15am I felt very sick, so I had some breakfast at work.
8.45am Lower right tummy pain started. The pain made me feel like my insides were being stretched.
9.00am The tummy pain went away and I had a short series of around 5-6 sharp spasms in the middle of my tummy.
I have no idea what's causing it or why I have it. I'm not overweight, I'm very small and slim for my age (5'2")
What I can add, even though it's a sensitive subject, is that even though my periods have been regular, the last one was 4 days early and I was bleeding intermittently a day before it started.
I know most of you guys don't know what to suggest, but this is a condition that has been confusing me and making my life so miserable. A few times it has brought me to tears because I'm starting to feel unable to cope with the pain and why it keeps bothering me.
Cheers
Jo
